To take dd back to the doctor?

My 3 year old dd has had a temperature of 40 since 3am today, I rang for an out of hours appointment and was seen at about half 11 this morning.

The dr diagnosed tonsillitis and prescribed penicillin and told me to keep her dosed up on ibuprofen and paracetamol. Also as her pulse rate was high and she kept panting and was quite limp to take her to a&e in a few hours if no improvement or if she got worse.

Since then I haven't been able to get her to swallow any medicine at all have tried everything even resorting to having her dad hold her so I can try to force it in but that just made her gag so violently nothing stayed down. She won't eat anything at all, has drunk very small amounts so no option of mixing medicine into anything. Wwyd? Do I just take her to a&e now or wait it out? Her temperature is still holding at between 39.7 and 40 and she hasn't moved all day just laid down and slept or cried Sad

If your worried just bring her to a&e.

summertimeandtheweatherisfine · 15/07/2017 15:26

Yes take her or phone 111 back.

Rolypolybabies · 15/07/2017 15:29

A+E. If she can't keep the medicine down she could get very ill.

FaithAgain · 15/07/2017 15:36

Yes I would call 111 and be prepared that they might suggest you go to A&E.

Aquamarine1029 · 15/07/2017 15:39

Definitely take her back. Dehydration can be very serious, especially with little ones.

Upyourdaisy · 15/07/2017 15:40

I'd take her to a&e, my eldest had it a couple of years ago and almost couldn't breath. It was terrifying. I hope she's better soon.

soulsearch1ng · 15/07/2017 15:42

I'd take her, no questions.

I ended up myself in hospital on a drip for a couple of days as I had such a bad throat, I couldn't swallow (not even liquids).

hope she is better soon!

millymae · 15/07/2017 15:45

I would take her straight to A & E - don't bother with 111 or out of hours. Have you tried offering her an iced lolly to suck?

eatabagofdicks · 15/07/2017 15:45

Hospital definitely. I hope she's ok Flowers

Hotheadwheresthecoldbath · 15/07/2017 15:46

A and E,if she can't/won't swallow then she will only deteriorate, best to get her there before you get to that stage.Wiping her with a damp cloth and letting it dry naturally will help with her temp but she needs to drink.
Also go now as it can be busy later on a Saturday evening.

Crunchymum · 15/07/2017 15:47

Well the Dr did say A&E if no improvement? So I'd go to A&E

doowapwap · 15/07/2017 15:48

In this situation I would take her to a&e, she needs help, sounds like she needs rehydrating at the very least.

Good luck, I hope your daughter starts to feel better soon Flowers

Crunchymum · 15/07/2017 15:48

Current advice for temperature is no wiping down / tepid water etc....

ohfourfoxache · 15/07/2017 15:49

A&E

You can't take any risks with little ones

Heirhelp · 15/07/2017 15:51

A and E now.

miniloco · 15/07/2017 15:53

Yup I'd onky read about half of that before I was thinking a+e. I'm sure little one will be fine but needs some antibiotics in their system so may need IV. May also benefit from some fluid too

stealtheatingtunnocks · 15/07/2017 15:59

GP told you to take her if she wasn't better in a few hours.

It's been a few hours.

Take her.

NoMoreDecorating · 15/07/2017 15:59

Ok definitely A&E, really hope she's ok Flowers

outnumbered4 · 15/07/2017 16:02

Thanks everyone, I rang 111 back and they said to take her down to a&e so I will make my way there with her now

Give her kisses from all of us! Let us know how she's doing.

Upyourdaisy · 15/07/2017 16:05

Hope she's ok and they can help

2014newme · 15/07/2017 16:07

Syringe fluids in, it's what they'll have you do in a and e

Hotheadwheresthecoldbath · 15/07/2017 16:08

Crunchy mum, agree you have to be careful with the tepid sponging but if child unable to take medication /fluids then OK but you do need to keep rechecking temp.

IHateUncleJamie · 15/07/2017 16:15

Keep us posted 💐

chocolateworshipper · 15/07/2017 16:17

Hope she's ok. Poor little thing x
