To try to lose half a stone and take it from there

islandsandshores · 14/07/2017 16:32

I'm very overweight and I feel overwhelmed by how much I have to lose.

WIBU to take it half a stone at a time or is this stupid

Yanbu, better to set smaller more manageable goals and achieve them than a big goal and get overwhelmed and give up

AlmostAJillSandwich · 14/07/2017 16:33

Not at all, small achieveable goals are much more motivating than one big goal that you know will take a long time and have lots of points along the way you'd feel like giving up.

BusterTheBulldog · 14/07/2017 16:35

That sounds super sensible! Small targets much easier to manage

Squirmy65ghyg · 14/07/2017 16:35

That's a great idea :) Do it! I've lost 24lbs by the same approach

Titsywoo · 14/07/2017 16:35

That's what I'm doing! I had 5 to lose and have lose 1.5 so far. It's taking me ages as I keep stalling but that's me being a greedy guts. As long as I do put it back on I'm happy and I've maintained for 2 months so am ok with that. Will get back on it soon and hopefully drop 2 stone at least by the end of the year but I do concentrate on half a stone at a time. If you're very overweight you may find it comes off fast at first but this will slow down. Just keep plodding along and don't do extreme diets and you'll be fine :)

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/07/2017 16:36

Small achievable goals!

Rainybo · 14/07/2017 16:40

It's the best way to do it! I have done this and I've lost 10lbs over the last month. I find it much easier to think in pounds as that feels achieveable.

Aquamarine1029 · 14/07/2017 16:48

Stop eating sugars, dramatically reduce your caloric intake to normal levels, take it one day at a time, stop using food as a source of comfort and/or boredom reliever, and you will lose the weight.

islandsandshores · 14/07/2017 17:00

Yeah I didn't know that aqua Confused

Blimey Aqua

That was urm helpful not

Yes set yourself small goals OP, much more manageable and sustainable.

Peachyking000 · 14/07/2017 17:21

Yes, small goals are best - and treat yourself to something (non edible!) each time you meet a goal. I did this and it helped massively

RiversDisguise · 14/07/2017 17:24

A lot of people have success with this. A pound at a time.

You can do it! Smile

ShakeShakeTheMuffin · 14/07/2017 17:26

Small goals are good. I also found keeping a food diary really useful as you're more mindful of what you're eating. My Fitness Pal app has a good food database. I lost 10kg doing that. (Put 5 back on since I lapsed so just started againBlush)

JessFine · 14/07/2017 17:32

Actually I found Aqua's advice helpful, I've got a headful of carbs/syns/steps and just need simple day by day instructions Smile

Losing a stone or pound at a time is good too, how often to weigh yourself though? I tend to do everyday and it's disheartening.

FrankensteinsSister · 14/07/2017 17:36

Perfect!
Small goals are the way to go. You're never too far.
I've lost 42lbs since Dec doing this.
You can do it! One manageable step at a time.

Aquamarine1029 · 14/07/2017 17:37

Jess, I think using a scale every day is totally counterproductive and frustrating. I think paying attention to how you're feeling and how your clothes fit is a more helpful way to keep motivated. Maybe weigh yourself every two or three weeks.

StealthPolarBear · 14/07/2017 17:50

Good plan op, and use this to see what impact your progress is having on your cardiovascular risk.

OverTheHammer · 14/07/2017 17:55

I think that is the most sensible way to approach weight loss actually! I've done the same and it's so much easier knowing you only have 3/4 pounds to lose before reaching target! Then when you reach target, set a new goal like I did this morning 😁 stealth boast alert

PippaFawcett · 14/07/2017 17:56

I am doing one week - hopefully two lbs at a time - anything else is too overwhelming for me too! Good luck!

JessFine · 14/07/2017 17:56

Gah! I like an obvious measure. Maybe that's why I've failed before, too impatient.
I'll try it with clothes then, aim to get back into the things I could wear last year but are too tight now.

Half a stone at a time is a great idea.

OverTheHammer · 14/07/2017 17:56

Also OP, download My Fitness Pal. It's my bible, absolutely invaluable when it comes to weight loss.

PurpleDaisies · 14/07/2017 17:56

Definitely best to set smaachievable goals, change your eating habits for life and lose the weight slowly and sustainably. Have you got a plan?

StealthPolarBear · 14/07/2017 18:01

Well done over the hammer.
I am doing dreadfully at the moment t but am getting back on it slowly.
Please anyone on my fitness pal friend me 44katy

islandsandshores · 14/07/2017 18:10

I HATE myfitnesspal!

I am going to do nothing other than trying to get half a stone off.

OP posts:
OverTheHammer · 14/07/2017 18:13

Can I ask why you hate it so much? I'm genuine curious as I can't live without it 😂
