Why on earth does school have to close at 13:45 on the last day of term? What is the purpose of this? Confused!!!!

I was replying to mittens actually.

MSLehrerin · 19/07/2017 17:13

Excellent. Glad we cleared that up @Whoopwhoopwooo

Now I'm away to enjoy the rest of the first day of my six and a half week holiday.

SmileEachDay · 19/07/2017 17:14

You know what I hate about this sort of thread? The giant lumping together generalisations.

I'm a teacher. I don't "whinge" about my job. I have very real concerns about the way education is going and the hoop jumping that increasingly gets in the way of me teaching, but that's not whinging.

Some teachers whinge. As do some people with other jobs.

SuperPug · 19/07/2017 17:15

Here's a thought OP...
Why don't you ask your school why it closes at that time? If you don't want opinions and you like using this - 😴, when people on this forum who work in schools quite rightly reply to stupid comments about teachers and holidays?

KittyVonCatsington · 19/07/2017 17:16

I only stated in the original post that teaches get lots of time off, and still whinge about their job. You have just proved my point. Thank you

No-this thread hasn't proved that point at all. It wasn't a teacher who started this thread to whinge about their job but has been full of teachers defending their jobs against attacks like yours. In fact, you whinged about your job on this thread - it's only acceptable when you do it?

Whoopwhoopwooo · 19/07/2017 18:38

😴

Mittens1969 · 19/07/2017 18:55

Basically an end of school year thread, where teachers and parents alike can have their rant whilst being protected by being anonymous. They can say things they would never think of saying if it was under their own name.

SuperPug · 19/07/2017 19:17

Mittens, exactly, always started by a goady OP.
And if someone said this to my face, I would say exactly the same and have done before.
I don't feel the need to start goady threads about any other job but it's a bit of a trend here and becomes a bit boring. It's normally full of assumptions and incorrect information as well to boot...

MSLehrerin · 19/07/2017 19:24

And everybody has been to school so knows exactly what it's like to be a teacher........and is therefore eminently qualified to pass judgment, comment and give advice.

I go to the doctor fairly regularly but would never even think to comment.

Those who have it in for teachers are usually those parents too 😉

I see we've bored @Whoopwhoopwooo off too.......

MaisyPops · 19/07/2017 19:44

Don't you just love it when a teacher thread resorts to "yeah... well, the grammar in your last post was off" secretly feels smug safe in the knowledge that you're infinitely smarter than the idiots who teach GrinHmm

A friend of mine who lurks on Reddit says you can tell when a topic has lost the plot when it resorts to picking apart somebody's (probably rush typed) replies on a forum or fascism gets mentioned. Starting to think the same might be true for some MN threads Grin

SmileEachDay · 19/07/2017 20:11

It's like the MN equivalent of Godwin's Law Maisy

user1489675144 · 29/07/2017 12:55

Well 6 - 7 weeks is not long enough for the teachers so they get the extra half day for a pub lunch and a drink....

I think some schools have teaching assistants in until usual close day to look after children that cannot go early... TA's obviously don't need an extra half day LOL

jennielou75 · 29/07/2017 14:31

We break up at 3.20 as usual . Then we had a full inset on Friday and with most of my colleagues I was in mon to weds this week. I shall also be in the last week with everyone else. Still love my job and being with the kids though!
