To help my friend with her Chemo

Hi - blatant post for traffic apologies in advance.

My friend starts Chemo for breast cancer on Sat.

My other friend and I want to make up a little basket of "stuff" to help her through - please can you suggest what might help?

TIA

You're a gem!

Lovely hats - my friend went through chemo and her head got quite cold (especially when she lost her hair) so lovely, really soft knitted hats that wouldn't be itchy were nice.

Vouchers to help babysit her kids (if she has small children) to help give her a break when she's tired, to ring you to bring her a meal or do her grocery shopping for her.

Maybe one of those little pocket sized books with positivity mantras and inspirational phrases to help her when it's particularly hard.

My mom's nails got all black from the chemo; a mani/pedi might be appreciated.

Oh & Tesco Delivery Saver (voucher?) or similar if they don't already do internet food shops! Better things to do with the good days than food shopping!

Nominate her for a Candy's Hug - she doesn't have to be a MNer! EvilDoctorLad now has his draped over his chair at home. 😆

As another ex chemo patient, what you are doing is lovely.

Quiet company was the best! Just sitting, comfortable silence.

Lifts! Dropping to the hospital and picking up were a godsend.
Boiled sweets. Heavily flavoured - chocolate limes, rhubarb and custard, dandelion and burdock etc
Cold packs think I got mine from boots
Give her a pedicure?

Hand cream.

Trashy mags.

Again you are fab!

Oh and if you're feeling generous, a beautifully soft pashmina.
Much classier than a bed jacket!!

Benefit's tired eyes make up kit

And anything with ginger in for the nausea - biscuits, sweets, candles

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 14/07/2017 05:27

I once looked after a lady who found ginger ale helped her nausea so perhaps some small bottles or cans of that to try. And some straws.

EvilDoctorLad has suggested a colouring book and something to hug. HTH. 😊

Offer her practical help. If she is a close friend then maybe ask for her keys and clean her house. Make it one less thing she needs to deal with.
Does she have kids? Offer to take them to school. Give her lifts to the hospital. Ask if she is allowed people to sit with her whilst she is having chemo.
Cook her food. A whole range of them as she may lose her current taste buds.
Does she have a tablet or something? If so maybe pay for wifi access in the hospital.
If she wants to do her own shopping then offer a Tesco subscription so they deliver when is convenient for her (costs about £7 a month) and maybe be in when she gets delivery so she doesn't have to put it all away.

If you want to get her stuff then as people have said maybe lip balm, maybe slippers to just be used in hospital.

Offer up your time. I think some people can find chemo quite lonely after the initial couple of weeks
