Continuation of the discussion.

It looks highly unlikely that there will be a verdict today as GOSH have not yet been able to put their case across. The Gard family had their position heard this morning and currently an expert witness from the US is being questioned via video link.

Is there a suggestion that GOSH hasn't already had a 'specialist paediatric neurologist' assess Charlie? Confused

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 16:50

is this a joke hasnt charlie seen specialists alrady

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 13/07/2017 16:50

The 10% change would be in muscle strength; small but significant chance of improvement in encephalopathy, expert says.

I'll be leaving shortly all. Thanks for the info and discussions you've all provided. Will try and catch up later on.

Best wishes, CJT x

straighttalker · 13/07/2017 16:51

But... GOSH HAVE specialist paediatric neurologists.

As in, if anywhere else in the country wanted a second opinion of a 'specialist paediatric neurologist' that's where they would call (in the London and Southern areas anyway).

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 13/07/2017 16:51

I think those people with more expertise would be the highly expert doctors now working night and day with him.

Exactly, Ceto.

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 16:51

hs trying to pass off all decisions diagnosis to someon else

seems like a crock

Chestervase1 · 13/07/2017 16:51

This is just cruel. You would think all this could have been settled by now. This baby has been seriously ill and ventilated for months now.

DarthMaiden · 13/07/2017 16:51

So what he is saying is - let someone else determine the extent of brain damage.

In other words I don't want to put my money where my mouth is.

Gah!!!!

cjt110 · 13/07/2017 16:52

The witness is reluctant to speculate about how much pain Charlie might be in. Again, he suggests someone more qualified should be sought.

FlowerSour the treatment has been offered free of charge in America.

The fund online is at nearly 1.4 m, lots of donations have gone straight to Connie's bank account. It was estimated at 2m but no idea where that has come from.

OhUnpretentiousSpud · 13/07/2017 16:52

He does seem to be passing the buck a bit...

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 16:53

how can judg lt this quack come here now he doesnt know anything!

FlowerSour · 13/07/2017 16:53

Does anyone know how his head would be measured?

I'm imagining it's not as simple as using a tape measure, as CA have said, if he has swelling?

Sirzy · 13/07/2017 16:54

It seems his tone has changed since the idea of coming over here popped up?

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 16:54

51s

Mr Armstrong for the parents rises for re-examination of the witness. The chap on the line from Italy hasn't been asked anything yet.

0nline · 13/07/2017 16:54

Witness agrees that to make a final assessment on brain function, the views of a specialist paediatric neurologist should be sought.

Apologies if this is a stupid question. But wouldn't there have been one or more experts in the relevant field giving their assessment on Charlie's brain function in the first trial ? So isn't that information already to hand in the court documents ?

Or am I overlooking something obvious ?

Ceto · 13/07/2017 16:54

NY expert asked about changed treatment plan. He accepts that adding an extra nucleoside involves additional risks. But he’d still go ahead.

Which is the US approach - if someone will pay, we'll do it.

stitchglitched · 13/07/2017 16:55

CA confused. They thought this witness was a specialist neurologist.
