To think we need an MN version of Godwin's Lawrence?

Godwin's Law: If an online discussion goes on long enough sooner or later someone will compare someone or something to Hitler or his deeds.

MN Godwin's Law: The more fractious a debate gets, and the more fierce the disagreement between posters, the more certain it becomes that someone will say another poster is "sad" and "has no life" because they're invested in a forum discussion. Crucially, the person making the accusation will see no irony in this.

Happens a lot, no? What should we call it?

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth No, no, that's when this Lawrence is invoked on a interior decoration thread.

ShowOfHands · 13/07/2017 15:53

It's irony heaped on ennui round here.

SoupDragon · 13/07/2017 16:52

Not so full of ennui that you can't resist clicking and commenting though.

LurkingHusband · 13/07/2017 16:57

Dunno about Godwin, but maybe OP should be aware of

Muphrys Law ...

VladmirsPoutine · 13/07/2017 17:05

ShowOfHands I agree! Some posters are just so pathetic and sad that they'll revisit threads to criticise the subject manner which is of no offence to anyone. I think that should also be Godwin's Lawrence too. It's just so pathetic and sad to see, I'm sure you'd agree with me. It must take a very interesting person to see through this though. No-one on this thread gets it but us. We have our own special team - not like these other losers. We clearly have more interesting things to do. Love ya babe! xx
Lets continue the fight!

Now that's the spirit Vlad.

We need all sorts of Lawrence sub clauses:

Drip feeding
Head tilt and tinkly laugh fuckery
Nit picking
Failure to spot irony...

Quite likes the idea of Godwin's Llewelyn Bowen. Grin

It could also be used when one poster tells another that she a) feels sorry for her children or b) asks why that poster isn't taking care of her children instead of wasting time on the internet.

Lurking I very nearly posted something ribbing you about that typo without clicking the link!
