Not really an AIBU but posting for traffic - my waters have gone, I'm in hospital but no-one seems to be able to tell me what happens next. Anyone around with experience/knowledge they'd like to share?Sad

I had my 24yrold at 36 weeks waters broke at 35 +3 and was induced at 35 with dd2 she was in scibu for a week. I hope you are ok this morning Flowers

TwoBlueFish · 13/07/2017 07:53

I got a leak in mine at 35 weeks (thought I was weeing myself) had been over 24 when I went to the hospital.

I was admitted, put on IV antibiotics due to infection risk and induced. DS was born 12 hours later, almost 7lbs and came home next day.

Neolara · 13/07/2017 07:57

I had a baby 4 hours later.

Good luck OP.

FraterculaArctica · 13/07/2017 08:00

Went at 35+1 with DC2. Admitted for monitoring, started on antibiotics, no steroids at that gestation. They said they'd keep me in 24-48 hours and if nothing happened send me home. They didn't examine for dilation (correct practice as they don't want to trigger labour or infection). Contractions started around 24 hours after waters went, DD born 50 mins later. Was a good job I was already in hospital - barely made it off the antenatal ward! Never got to see a consultant to discuss a plan as I was admitted on a Sunday and then it all happened too fast the following early morning.

ButterflyFree · 13/07/2017 08:06

Your stories are giving me hope! 15hrs since my waters broke now and still absolutely no hint of a contraction... Really hoping to avoid an induction, but that's what will have to happen if nothing changes by 6pm 😩

CigarsofthePharoahs · 13/07/2017 09:27

Mine broke at 35+6 weeks.
Went straight to hospital and was put on antibiotics.
Labour didn't start spontaneously. I think I waited 36 hours before they tried an induction. They had been hoping I'd make it to 37 weeks, but my waters (which just kept leaking out) were showing signs of infection.
The induction was horrible and failed. My baby showed significant signs of distress.
So, emergency section in the end. Ds was very tangled up in his umbilical cord which was why he wouldn't come out the usual way!
We were both quite ill afterwards due to infection. Ds needed a day in special care and then a week of IV antibiotics. I also had IV antibiotics for 5 days then two weeks of pills. We were in hospital for a week.
Hope all goes well op.

ShowOfHands · 13/07/2017 09:34

Labour started but after 38hrs, he was stuck so had a second emcs. He was fine. 6lbs and perfectly healthy. Was allowed home a day later.

Golondrina · 13/07/2017 09:37

I had a baby about 3 hours later :)

towelpintpeanuts · 13/07/2017 09:46

I was given steroids and kept in for observation - gave birth in the early hours of the next morning :-) He had to have antibiotics for 24 hours (I think) as I went (just) over 24 hours from waters breaking until his birth - I don't know if that's still standard though as he is 13 now!

He didn't have to spend any time in SCBU/NICU after the initial checks - although we did stay in for a few days to get feeding established/keep an eye that his weight didn't drop too much (he was 5lb4oz).

FYI, breastfeeding an early baby can be tricky as they are very sleepy/need lots of encouragement. If you want to bf, it's worth asking if there is a BF consultant/specialist who can talk to you as I was given lots of techniques to help (& a lovely midwife who helped him cupfeed rather than introducing bottles which I personally wanted to avoid).

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 15/07/2017 16:25

How are you getting on Butterfly? I've been sent home with antibiotics to wait for Tues (37 weeks) when they'll induce me if I don't spontaneously go into labour before then.

towel thanks for the bf advice, I've started expressing colostrum in case he's s bit sleepy when born or has trouble latching, I've got about 15ml frozen which seems paltry but I'm assured he won't need much. The colostrum I'm getting now isn't as viscous as the first lots I expressed, any idea what this means?

Thank you to all of you lovely posters who've helped keep me calm over the last few days, it's meant a lot to hear your stories of healthy babies. Flowers

Mine broke at 34 weeks, was induced as they can't leave it too long. baby weighed 5.5 pounds , had some problems but fine in the long run. Born with a complete knot in his cord which I understand can be dangerous if room gets tighter so probably a good thing he was born when he was.

ButterflyFree · 15/07/2017 16:44

Oh bless you @AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered - keeping my fingers firmly crossed for you that things kick off naturally before then.

I went quiet on the thread because Baby Butterfly arrived on Thursday night, weighing 6lbs 2oz, after an incredibly intense 2hr labour! I went from having 2 mild contractions in 3 hours to suddenly having non-stop super strong contractions, which took me from baby's head being 3/5 engaged at 7:30pm to being fully dilated by 9:30pm... We were both monitored for any signs of infection for 24hrs after delivery due to the PROM, but got the all clear to go home last night ☺️ So labour started 27hrs after my waters broke and he arrived happy and healthy 29hrs after they broke.

To ask if your waters broke at 36 weeks what happened next?
thegreylady · 15/07/2017 16:45

My niece's waters broke at 36 weeks. Her last baby was very prem so they took her into hospital to monitor and her second ds was born 2 days later 🙂

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 15/07/2017 16:47

Congratulations Butterfly! He's absolutely gorgeous, well done you! I'm so glad they let you go home after 24 hrs, I'm terrified of having to stay on the post-natal ward again - lovely staff but zero sleep and hotter than a sauna in Hell!

When my waters broke 3 weeks before due date on the monday, i had to go in, in case of infection, i was given a drip to induce me, but didnt have my twins until friday, was only expecting one

Gramgram · 15/07/2017 17:00

Had DS at 36 weeks, he weighed 6lb. He developed jaundice and was put under those special lights. He was very active and kept nudging the goggles off, the midwife put plasters on the straps to help keep them on. He then came up in a rash caused by the plasters, he still can't use plasters at 32. He is absolutely fine. I, however always remind him that he didn't think much of my 5* hotel.

Hope all goes well for you and your new baby.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 16/07/2017 03:15

catsanddog you didn't know it was twins?? Blimey, what a shock!Shock

I'm back in hospital, contractions have started - still pretty mild, but annoying enough to prevent me sleeping. Labour is boooooring!

I was born at 36 weeks!
My mums waters broke, but I decided to stay firmly where I was Grin
She was induced and I was born a few days later - very healthy 6Ibs 6oz!

The same happened with my sister, but at 37 weeks. My sister came naturally 2 days later weighing a very healthy 8Ib 4ozGrin

Both natural births, we're both born at similar times (6 minutes difference!) and both very healthy!

Best of luck OP. Just seen contractions have started! How exciting! Flowers

I hope things are progressing smoothly OP.

DD was born at 36+3; my waters went at home but no contractions. Went into hospital - they did a sweep then when that didn't do much, started an induction drip - she arrived 2hrs later!
She was fine - v sleepy (so initially syringe fed, rather than on the breast, but that sorted itself out within 12hrs). V jaundiced too so phototherapy for a few days. We ended up staying in hospital for 6 days. That was a bit grim (in part because DC1 was at home and confused and missing mummy)

DD has just turned 1 now and you would never know all that had happened.

Good luck!

Hedgehog yes it was a shock,i had one of those carrycot type small prams, and had to get a twin, lovely silver cross ,hood at each end,in fact my exh friend found it for me,you would have thought he was the dad, lol,
I was told it was a big baby, but i had felt movement both sides very early on
I was told by a fortune teller 7 years before that i would have twin boys
Told my Dr in hospital, and had x ray, no scans then, he said your fortune teller was right, but couldnt tell if boys because of way they were laid
