I know its noting to do with me but it really makes me cross when I see a mother wrapped up with thick jumpers and coat on pushing a buggy with a tiny child in dressed in just a thin T-Shirt & skirt with sandles in this weather its freezing today!

You can see the child is so cold wind blowing into them, especially here where the wind comes off the sea

Saw this quite a few times today walking through town

Do be careful not to assume too much in case kid has thrown a strop and mum is saying, "well go without and see if you are cold".

I remember when DD1 was about 1, she wasn't yet walking and on the way round the shops on a drizzly day had managed to lose both her "padders" (it was 13 years ago, there were no such things as Clarks Cruisers or Daisy Roots that might actually stay on, or at least not widely available). Anyway, I realised and was on my way down to Mothercare to buy some thick socks/wellies/anything cheap when I heard this snotty cow say in a very loud voice how awful it was to push a child around with no shoes on/general not fit to look after a child comments. I was mortified, and unfortunately too gobsmacked to turn around and ask her if she'd go and find the bloody shoes DD had lost then! I just went home blubbing!

Housemum · 24/03/2007 22:44

... have read rest of your thread and yes, she is barking if she didn't even have coat/blanket/anything with her...

julen · 24/03/2007 23:07

.. uhmm, yes, IMO. Some children just do get warm and don't want to wear lots of clothes. Dd1 is usually just in a t-shirt and skirt, bare legs, while ds, dd2 and me are in at least 2 layers. I wouldn't jump to conclusions too quickly..

Jonut · 25/03/2007 00:09

Nobody seems to be listening to what she's actually saying!! SHe has said that it was not a toddler who could possibly have had a tantrum, it was a BABY! My daughter also gets very hot and sweaty easily but I always make sure that she has something on when we leave the house, even if it is just a cardie. I have seen so many mothers with inappropriate clothign for their children and it makes me so mad! As someone said, it's the same at the other end of the scale, when in the winter children have been dressed up for the cold but mothers have not removed blankets, hats, etc when in shops.

Thanks Jonut, its difficult to get this point accross to people, I have an overactive 3 year old so I know what people are saying about toddlers getting hot but babies don't do any running around if anyone was to sit still in an open buggy with next to nothing on in the gale force wind I'm sure anyone would get cold but for a baby who cannot say they are cold or ask for a blanket etc its just terrible.

This baby did have sandals on with bare feet, baby sandals - another fasion accessory. So sad.

Housemum - exactly the same thing happened to me 7 years ago - some terrible old lady came and gave me her opinion on the fact that dd1 didn't have shoes on - just tights. (her feet were peeking out from under the blanket).

3easterbunniesandnomore · 25/03/2007 13:48

if anyone had the audacity on lecturing me on my Kids not wearing shoes at a young age, I would have lectured right back...cos, it's better for Kids not to wear any shoes until they can actually walk properly

HillarysDancingInTheFairyField · 25/03/2007 13:50

I've had a succession of children who won't wrap up. It's very difficult. Out playing football football in shorts and T shirt in the garden in the light drizzle yesterday, saying he's never cold. They wear school uniform shorts even in the snow so may be that hardens them up.

magicfarawaytree · 25/03/2007 22:31

am a winter coat in summer person. all children like to walk round half naked even in winter with noses running. even at night its a fight when they sleep with us they want the covers down but I am freeeeezing. some kids are like that.

magicfarawaytree · 25/03/2007 22:32

should be all my children.....

Adorabelle · 25/03/2007 22:40

I live by the sea & it's lovely. But even when it is sunny there can be a real a chill in the air, especially at this time of year.

My 2.9 dd will kick & struggle & tell me that it is 'hot' outside when I know it's not. I'm the adult & she will wear a jumper & coat even if the sun is shining but I know it's nippy.

Some parents see the sun & think it's time to dress their LO's in their cute summer clothes. It's not even hot yet get a cardi on your child for Gods sake!

bozza · 25/03/2007 22:41

I have had the comments about DD being barefoot when she was that sort of age because she took off her socks all the time but I sorted it by putting tights under her trousers when on an outing. Nowadays I try and negotiate with DD (2) and we generally get there but I have given up with DS (6). He is a warm child, he knows if he is cold.

"Can I go outside and play football Mummy, it is not really raining" (ie I don't want to wear a coat)

"I don't mind being cold" (ie I don't want to put a jumper on over my football shirt)

And he always comes out of school with his coat unzipped and hanging off one shoulder.

Hillary · 26/03/2007 18:27

Ulysees · 26/03/2007 18:30

Nbg · 26/03/2007 18:32

I went shopping last weekend and saw a baby in a pushchair in shorts and t shirt

No socks, no blanket, nothing.

The mother was wearing hat scarf and gloves.

My name is Judgy Mcjudge of judgeville

Hillary · 26/03/2007 18:40

I'v got Judge Judy on!

Bloody people grrrrrr

CadburyCremeSquonk · 26/03/2007 18:41

I was the opposite of this today.

Dd2 wanted to wear her big, thick winter coat. And her woolly hat. And her gloves. And her scarf.

Twas the most glorious, warm spring day up here. Ds and I in shirt sleeves, dd wrapped up for an Arctic winter!

She would NOT remove any layers. Even when her face went bright red like this

OrmIrian · 26/03/2007 18:58

Well my DS#2 refuses to put on his coat/hat/gloves regularly. When DS#2 refused he really refuses. Unwilling, 3 kids down the line, to have battles that I can't win without bloodshed or screaming, and that don't really matter I put the offending garments in my bag and let him go out without. Sooner or later he will decide he is cold and will put them on. Or he won't in which case that is up to him. As it happens both he and DS#1 do not seem to feel the cold. I, on the other hand, do feel the cold so if I feel the need I dress up warmly.

OrmIrian · 26/03/2007 18:59

Oh it was a baby. In that case judge away...
