I am seriously considering subscribing to nespresso, you get a free machine and for how ever much a month they send you coffee pods 😱 aibu to think this is amazing? What's the catch!? Does anybody do this that could tell me if it's worth it or not?

Just looked I'm also tempted...
The ones that makes lattes is loads a month though. I think I only drink enough for the cheap one to be worth it. Cup a day.
Do it op! And I'll live vicariously through you

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 11/07/2017 13:33

I did this with Dolce Gusto (also owned by Nestle, so it's probably an identical offer). It was fine - I was given a choice of 3 different machines after 12 months, they sent it out with free P&P, no catch.

You won't be offered an all singing, all dancing new model as a freebie, but it's a nice thing regardless! Plus subscribing usually saves money in the long run.

itsbetterthanabox · 11/07/2017 13:36

What's better nespresso or dolce gusto? I have a tassimi but I want more!

itsbetterthanabox · 11/07/2017 13:36

*o

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 11/07/2017 13:38

I've never had a Nespresso, but I have Dolce Gusto machines and a Tassimo (I'm a coffee machine twat Grin). I like the Dolce Gusto, they're always nice to look at and they have a decent range of drinks.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 11/07/2017 13:39

Just looked at the Nespresso website - their drinks range looks a lot more 'grown up' than Dolce Gusto and Tassimo!

smudgedlipstick · 11/07/2017 15:11

I think nespresso is the best, tbh any coffee is fine by me as long as it contains caffeine, but nespresso has always been a listed after coffee machine for me, I don't know why.

So did you only get the free machine after the 12 months subscription? So I would have to buy a machine now to actually use the coffee

I drink around three to four cups a day 4 so it looks like it would be worth it to me

I looked into it. the subscription is the cost of the machine.
so if you want an interest free loan to buy a nespresso then it's a good idea
if you want a free nespresso, then it's not free

Justbreathing · 11/07/2017 15:25

in fact it's worse! inissia is £65 on amazon
subscription is 216 over a year!!!!
just buy one on amazon

itsbetterthanabox · 11/07/2017 15:27

You do get the pods too though. How much do you get and how much is that worth.

Haffiana · 11/07/2017 15:33

Subscription fee is for coffee credits, so the machine is more or less free? The £216 in your example is to be spent on coffee. That means the machine costs £1.

It is a good deal if you will use that much coffee in a year. I use far more than that - as a household we use approx 5-8 capsules a day. The only downside IMO is that the range of machines on this deal is limited. I have a U at home and love it!

Haffiana · 11/07/2017 15:36

If you like flavoured syrupy coffees, or are otherwise perfectly happy with a good quality instant then buy a Tassimo or Dolce Gusto. If you like really good quality coffee, then buy a Nespresso.

Justbreathing · 11/07/2017 15:38

oh yeah! well you get 18£ of nespresso credits. which is 50 pods per month
you'll need 84 which will cost you another £20 roughly
so it's £40 per month for all your coffee needs!
£480 total

or pay £65 and buy the pods in bulk at £335 for 1,000
total £400

You get some other bits n bobs with the subscription, dunno if they're worth it for you.
Bit of 6 of 1, half a dozen of the other.

Though I am sure if you did some proper digging you might be able to buy the pods a lot cheaper!

Haffiana · 11/07/2017 15:46

I am not understanding what you mean by buy the pods in bulk Justbreathing? The cost for the same amount of pods is the same whether you get a machine for £1 or not. I don't order pods every month as it happens, I get them every 2-3 months or so. I often pick some up when I am in John Lewis for example. Either way, the cost per pod is the same, and would be the same if I had a monthly subscription or not.

There are no cheaper Nespresso pods. There are lots of pods made for Nespresso machines by other manufacturers, including some supermarket's own brands. Some (not all) are indeed cheaper. I have tried many, and found only 1 flavour by 1 manufacturer to be only just acceptable. The rest are vile. But that is just me - I drink black coffee and I am fussy.

AvoidingCallenetics · 11/07/2017 15:54

I wouldn't. There are loads of cheaper pods that are compatible with nespresso and you can get one cheap on amazon or on sale elsewhere. Those pods are seriously overpriced imo.

Justbreathing · 11/07/2017 15:55

on their website they have them in blocks of 200.
I just meant bulk as in 200 of them. and I was working out a fast way to calculate!
I actually presumed they might be 1 or 2p cheaper but it seems not!!

anyway! not sure why I am getting this involved! I was just vaguely interested in working out the sums!!!!
it seems it's basically a good way to spread the cost of a machine!

I'm going to stick to threads on narcissists and evil neighbours from now on in!

SoupDragon · 11/07/2017 16:02

I would just buy an espresso machine and use ordinary ground coffee. Much cheaper.

Also, have they sorted out the pod recycling issues?

changingShorts · 11/07/2017 16:06

I think Nespresso and other pod machines are a rip-off. DH and I looked into getting a coffee maker a couple of years ago and were initially tempted but found, with a few calculations, that buying a proper espresso machine (from the likes of Gaggia, Krups, etc) works out much cheaper in the long run. Plus you can use any ground coffee (or even grind your own beans).

2017SoFarSoGood · 11/07/2017 16:18

I'm a big fan of very dark roast strong coffee. Either slow slow pour freshly ground or Nespresso does the job for me. Best machines I've had.

smudgedlipstick · 11/07/2017 17:09

Justbreathing, thankyou for your comments! I wouldn't never have bothered work out any math.

I have a espresso machine and a filter coffee machine so I mean it isn't exactly necessary I just love nespresso coffee 😳

40 a month is quite a lot just on coffee considering I would still buy coffee when out and about, also didn't factor in the other half drinking coffee 🙄----
