You can take him Smile

Sofabitch · 10/07/2017 19:18

Of course you can. Its just a shop. They are humans too.

Wonders if you think single parents just never gets their ds hair cut?

Redtartanshoes · 10/07/2017 19:18

What would happen if you didn't have a husband? Hmm

TurquoiseOwl · 10/07/2017 19:18

I'm sure it's absolutely fine. I don't think they have an issue with females going into the building Grin I think it's more of the fact that they are best trained at cutting male styles, etc.

RightAreYouSure · 10/07/2017 19:19

I'd take him to a regular hairdresser.

Okite · 10/07/2017 19:20

Of course you can take him! Women aren't banned from barber shops.

Ilovecoleslaw · 10/07/2017 19:20

Of course you can!!

trilbydoll · 10/07/2017 19:21

My mum took me to a barbers once and he cut my ear Shock thankfully I only have dds, I'm far too traumatised to go back to a barbers even 25 years on!

AmysTiara · 10/07/2017 19:22

Grin this made me laugh. (Not in a mean way)

You definitely can take him Right.

DollyPartonsBeard · 10/07/2017 19:22

Keep a sharp eye out for whoever comes in after you as many barbershop don't have appointments, you just wait your turn. Also have specific instructions for the barber so they know what to do (learnt this the hard way after I asked for a trim/ short back and sides for my DS when he was 8 or 9. Went to sit back down in the waiting area and my son emerged with a strange spiky do; he told me the barber kept asking/ telling him he wanted a 'Gareth Gates' and my son was too shy to object!)

dementedpixie · 10/07/2017 19:22

Of course you can. It's normally me that takes ds as dh is at work. Although he's regudingca haircut at the moment so it's s bit floppy looking just now

C0untDucku1a · 10/07/2017 19:24

Grin when he asks about a style just dont ask for somehing for the weekend...

AdalindSchade · 10/07/2017 19:25

There are women who work in the 2 barbers shops near me. As above note down who is there when you arrive, and don't be shy about telling blokes your son is next when they mysteriously don't see either of you and try to jump the queue (happened more than once!)

Guepe · 10/07/2017 19:25

Actually, an increasing number (although still a minority) of barber shops are male only. You won't have problems in the vast majority, but I have seen female family members get turned away from some.

dementedpixie · 10/07/2017 19:28

Really, how bizarre. Never seen it happen where I live

owlmug · 10/07/2017 19:28

I'm a single mum with DSs so have to take them.

I've overheard some very interesting converstions at the barbers Grin

topcat2014 · 10/07/2017 19:30

I take DD to her hairdressers without issue (male).

Anyway, whilst barbers normally wouldn't cut girls hair they have no issue about letting mums in - at least not in mine.

How weird would it be if they did!

They're not the masons you know.

indigox · 10/07/2017 19:30

I take DS to a barbers myself.

qwertyuiop1234 · 10/07/2017 19:31

I got told I couldn't have my hair done (just wanted my undercut shaved) in a barbers because I'm a woman and men won't like it if I'm in there.
Absolutely gobsmacked, especially as ran by two women.

However, I've been to three others that have accepted me without batting and eyelid and have been wonderful Smile

Asparaguswee · 10/07/2017 19:31

I'm sure it must be illegal to prevent women from taking a child to the barbers?! What if you're a single parent or widowed?

topcat2014 · 10/07/2017 19:32

The main difference is you tend just to rock up and sit and wait.
Apart from that, not sure of other rules. I know f* all about football - which put me off getting my hair cut as a younger chap - but I cope ok now.

DollyPartonsBeard · 10/07/2017 19:34

Take something to read, as well, unless Top Gear magazine and that blokey supplement that comes with the Daily Fail on a Saturday float your boat!

minisoksmakehardwork · 10/07/2017 19:36

While I don't understand why barbers won't cut women's hair, I've seen the reverse when I've been in a hairdressers and they've declined to cut and style a man's long hair, directing him to the attached barbers instead. It's just a 'thing' I guess.

Women tend to make appointments, men rock up and wait.

Anyway, I take my boys to the (all female) barbers as if I didn't, their hair would be down to their knees by the time dh and the boys were free at the same time. TBH we use the same barber since they started cutting the ds' hair so after the first time, I said 'what you did last time'. I now know it's a 2 or 3 back and sides (depending on how short I want it) and a trim on top. They always look smart when done.
