I can't believe it's a parking one!
Ok so I live near the centre of a largish town, behind the large Hospital. There's a railway with a footbridge over it so you can walk to the hospital in 2/3 minutes, but to drive there you have to go around and it takes 10-30 minutes depending on traffic which can be awful.
All the streets round here are back-to-back terraces with onstreet parking, so there's basically just over 1 parking space per house.
The problem is that there's never anywhere to park at peak times! I've gone out at 9 before for a 20-minute errand, only to come home and spend half an hour driving around to find a space! (and then have to park 2 streets away). It drives me mental!
The main problems are I think:
- The hospital. They have a multi-storey car park but I expect it's expensive. So staff park on our road every morning to walk over the footbridge to the hospital. I expect visitors/patients do it too but they're not as recognisable as the staff in their uniforms.
- It's only a 10-minute walk into town from here, and I think we're the closest non-permit street to the centre (only just outside permit area). So people drive here from out of town, park up, and walk in to do their shopping etc.
What can I do???
I'm thinking a snotty letter to the hospital, and maybe talk to the council? But if they extend the permit area everyone who lives here will have to pay, which I doubt they'll want.
