I know I'm probably being unreasonable but I thought I'd double check.

We only have one car between us. My weekend job is 15 minutes away in the car. Dp has taken to taking me and picking me up from work on the weekends so he can have the car to take the kids out.

This is fine in principle I know it makes sense for him to use it rather than it left in the car park all day. Why is it really pissing me off? That time driving to and from work was my time to be alone and have some headspace before being on parent duty again and now its been taken away. I know I'm being unreasonable but argh!

Is there a coffee shop you could go to for a while after work? Have a coffee. Browse mumsnet or read. Then he pick you up in a while. I understand needing time. I wouldnt mind in the morning but evenings yes.

OohMavis · 10/07/2017 09:58

Yes I think yabu, but you seem to know that. He can't help that he has to drive to work, it's far away, it's not as though he's being purposefully hypocritical.

Bringitbackstingitback · 10/07/2017 10:00

There's nowhere really to go after work every where is shut.

Could you cycle to work?

I sympathise OP, I hated even giving adults lifts to work because I needed my driving time to be me time, and I didn't even have children then!

I'd be trying to squeeze a second car out of the budget any way possible, could one/both of you do your CBT so you could have a cheap moped or something?

Jamhandprints · 10/07/2017 19:42

Can you get the bus or train? X

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 10/07/2017 19:57

Why can't he get a bus or train to work in the week? I wouldn't want to be without car access as a driver if possible in case something happened to one of the kids!

teaandtoast · 10/07/2017 21:35

Why can't he have it one weekend day and you have it the other?

There must be stuff he can walk or cycle to or get the bus with the kids.
Or stay in and look after the kids in the house. Or do housework.

I could cycle I suppose I have a bike in the shed I haven't ridden in years.

He needs tools etc for work so can't get public transport. Having it one day each could be a good idea.
