It's a DVD of Watership Down. Will I traumatise my kids by letting them watch it?

OP posts:
TyneTeas · 08/07/2017 22:12

How old are the kids...?

Trills · 08/07/2017 22:13

It's not a bargain if you don't want it.

e1y1 · 08/07/2017 22:15

As a Bunny owner - it is beyond traumatising. Don't do that to you DC Grin

JamieLannisterToMyBedchamber · 08/07/2017 22:22

There was a thread about this film a while back.

It is NOT a kids' film.

TheRealLemonLyman · 08/07/2017 22:25

Don't do it. Gave me nightmares for years. Swirling rabbits with blood running out of their eyes is not suitable viewing for anyone, let alone children.

Sparklingbrook · 08/07/2017 22:27

Don't buy it. Not even if it's 20p. Horrible film.

FatCatFaces · 08/07/2017 22:28

It's far too sad. I'm fully grown up. I've watched it once and shall avoid forever more. Sad

I hate sad films though and do my best to avoid anything eye-watery.

AshesEmbersFlames · 08/07/2017 22:29

God, no. Awful film.

SaucyJack · 08/07/2017 22:30

Depends how much you hate your kids.

Madeyemoodysmum · 08/07/2017 22:30

No no no no and no

NicolasFlamel · 08/07/2017 22:33

It's a horrid film. I don't understand why anyone shows it to kids. Everyone I know who watched it when we were little is still pretty much traumatised 20 years later.

WatchingFromTheWings · 08/07/2017 22:40

I remember being very upset watching this as a child. As an adult I bought it, paid £3 for it. 16 years on it's still in its cellophane wrap! Can't bring myself to watch it!

RuggerHug · 08/07/2017 22:41

Can you afford the therapy and knowing they hate you a little bit if you facilitate them seeing it? It's been 25 years and I still haven't forgiven my DDad for sticking it on in front of me.

SunLolly · 08/07/2017 22:42

If your children are particularly sensitive I'd maybe avoid. I remember hiding when the river of blood / rabbits suffocating in their burrows bits were on. I will let my kids watch it I think - it's a good story and I like the film overall.

LilQueenie · 08/07/2017 22:50

DD has seen it from an early age. If its the Rik Mayall version go for it.

Bumdishcloths · 08/07/2017 22:51

It's a rite of passage. But if they're very young, save it for when they're a bit older.

Carouselfish · 08/07/2017 22:52

Yeah, get it and let them watch it. Might make them empathetic towards rabbits which is much needed in a world that is pretty bloody awful towards them

Floralnomad · 08/07/2017 22:56

I've never seen it , I can't even listen to Bright Eyes it's so depressing . It is not a children's film

MumBod · 08/07/2017 23:00

Ahem

To think I shouldn't buy this bargain?
NotTheDuchessOfCambridge · 08/07/2017 23:01

I watched it 33 years ago when I was 5. I'm still traumatised! I have it on DVD but the kids won't watch it as they know how bad I was 😂

peachgreen · 08/07/2017 23:06

Nooooooo. It's DARK.

littlemissneela · 08/07/2017 23:08

Its a sad film, but I loved it when I watched it at the cinema when it first came out. Bright Eyes stuck in my head for ages. That said, it does have some horrible fights in it, with quite animated blood, and a very rude sweary bird.

ProfAnnieT · 08/07/2017 23:12

Briiiiight Eyeeeeees.... fucking you up forever...

ChandlersNubbin · 08/07/2017 23:12

No no no no no no no! Did I say no?!

DD is 12 and she'd be utterly traumatised by this!

RJnomore1 · 08/07/2017 23:15

I am 40 and I am STILL not allowed to watch it.

It's rated 118.
