I am 36 and have been a credit controller since I was 22. My latest role is more like admin than credit control but over the last few years I have been wanting to try something different anyway. I don't particularly like office politics. So here are my options.
Electrician- because it looks interesting and good money.
Debt management advisor- ties in with my current job and would help people.
Teaching assistant- would fit in with school, I love the idea of helping kids learn and I think I would get a lot of job satisfaction.
Thanks in advance Smile

Buyer? Your skills would be easily transferable

Not TA. Pay is dreadful, you get asked to do too much out of your specified role and the existence of TAs is currently precarious, due to budget cuts.

Can you afford to quit and retrain? What about running your own company? I'd be a sparky, out of those. Enjoying mending and constructing, bit technical, hands on but some brain work too.

It can be interesting and the money can be good too.

See if you can spend a while with someone out on site to see if you like the job first, it is something that a woman is perfectly capable of:-)

Schools have finance officers etc, maybe even an attendance officer? Good way of getting you foot in the door :)

Thanks everyone Smile. I am leaning towards electrician with your comments as I do enjoy problem solving in my current job and I would get the freedom of being out and about. I got that idea when an electrician came to our house when all the electrics went in the house and I just thought it looked like an interesting job and more so being a woman Wink

TA pay is truly awful for what you do but it can be really rewarding. I really loved my time as a ta working with children with special educational needs. I didn't get paid in the holidays though... no way I could have done it if dh hadn't had a good salary.

If you like that sort of thing, you should seriously consider volunteering at a youth club or similar.

If you've got a degree you could consider teaching (its bloody hard but I love it).
