AIBU to be nervous about social?

The mums from DD's class at nursery are meeting up for a drink tonight. I don't know any of them and I was looking forward to getting to know them, but for some reason I've suddenly started feeling nervous...

I used to have social anxiety in my early twenties, but like to think I've got over it. I've remained an introvert however - I like meeting individuals rather than groups, making a small number of good friends rather than socialising widely, and TBH I have no idea how to behave in a pub.

Any tips in the next hour or so before I go?

Oh poor you! Its difficult if youre an introvert but just think of it this way, people just want to be friendly and chat and feel comfortable, so relax, smile, engage with people - one to one if you prefer. Ask questions and get people talking about themselves. Have a quick look at a news site so youre up to date with local/national/international news and events and you'll be fine.

Have a drink to steady your nerves before you go or take your anti anxiety medd if you still have them (half an hour before you get there).

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Have a drink! Just smile and engage in conversation. You'll be fine. Half the mums going probably feel the same way.

Thanks guys. Do people tend to buy rounds or drinks for themselves?

At our parents from school meet-ups we tend to take it in turns to buy a bottle of wine so there are usually 2 bottles of red and 2 bottles of white on the go at any one time.

I'm sure most will buy for themselves- have a lovely time op. Have a nice natter with everyone- have some topics planned in case conversation goes quiet-the preschool, holidays etc
Everyone will be in the same boat- enjoy!

I would ask 'whats the plan, are we doing rounds or buying separately' and then take it from there. Have a nice time Wine
