To ask what the eff is a 'deep feeler/empath?'

Someone I went to school with described herself on facebook as a 'deep feeler' and an 'empath'. What on earth does this mean?

It was funny as this so-called 'deep feeler' was a title-tattle obsessed gobshite, who loved inserting herself into other people's dramas and shite-stirring , whilst dressing it up a concern for the parties involved.

Am I right to think that 'empath/deep feeler' is the same behaviour wrapped up in new age guff.

There was an empath in Star Trek -she could feel what people were feeling...

There was someone on my counselling course like this who said this in the group. Went on and on about picking up on every emotion and how draining it was for her etc etc. This was literally in the last few weeks when we'd been doing it for 2 years.

I said 'oh right, I tend to go on what they actually say'.
