To not care that I will always be a YoYo dieter?

Sooo, I am stood in the canteen queue with my plate of salad and I catch myself thinking, god I can't wait until I finish this diet and can have what I want.....
It then occurs to me that I will forever be on and off a diet because I don't actually WANT to change my eating habits long term. I only see healthy eating as a way to get back to the weight I like, not as a long term change.

Now I am fine with that, It means I diet for a few months every few years, this will be my third time in 9 years. In between times I pretty much eat what I like.

My weight goes from 8st when I am at target weight up to 9.7 when I start thinking I should probably do something about it. This time around I got to 9st 10 because I did an all inclusive holiday....

Anyway so I am not an unhealthy weight, never passed the line to over weight (have come close at 9st 10 though) so AIBU to just accept I am a yoyo dieter?

Anyone else not care if they end up dieting every few years?

Probably a boring thread but it has literally only just occurred to me. although it was glaringly obvious....

I was under the impression that yo-yo dieting would upset the metabolism and make it more difficult to lose weight in the future.

If you are happy to cut down at times then why not do 5:2, then you wouldn't have to deny yourself for months or indeed get big before starting the diet.

I'm sorry to tell you that you dieting is really bad for your health. It may not mean much to you now but in future when your health goes downhill because of it you will wish you hadn't done it. It sounds as if you have a form of eating disorder and it might be worth getting psychological help. I was a yo yo dieter San I am now on a no added sugar, low fat diet for health problems

NoLoveofMine · 07/07/2017 13:34

Never been on a diet and never will be on one (unless it was ever a medical necessity). I'm a healthy weight and I love food.

I definitely don't have an eating disorder Goose, when I say eat what I like, I don't mean gorging myself on take away or eating till I am sick. I just mean choosing Thick toast with butter over wholemeal, cheese and Tuna mayo on my jacket potato and not plain tuna, having a cake when they are brought into the office.

I didn't realise that it was bad for your metabolism though, or your health.

I'm the same - I'm either on a diet to loose weight or not

I do the 5:2 when dieting so at least it's more bearable but I couldn't eat normally on other 5 days & lose weight - I'm obviously a greedy pig as I still put on

I wish I could learn how to maintain weight but have not managed it yet

I'm the same. It's not a big deal, unless you are totally restricting when you're dieting or eating totally crazy amounts when you're not. I generally eat the same but when it dieting I eat lots of olive oil and have treats such as cakes and crisps and generally bigger portions. When dieting I cut back on these things, limit sugar and ise cooking sprays rather than oils and eat smaller portions with more veg. I personally can't see the harm in it, my upper and lower weights are very similar to yours.

goose do you have any links to evidence explaining why it is bad for your health? I'm interested to know why.
