He's 5.

He barely slept last night, it was horribly hot and he ended up in our bed. He was talking in his sleep loads, which he usually only does when he's brewing a bug. Someone's car alarm went off three times in the night and he cried before settling each time.

He's still asleep now, unsurprisingly. Drenched in sweat.

We would leave in an hour. I'm tempted to leave him be and see if he wakes up and gets ready, rather than wake him up and wrangle him.

Wwyd? I'm watching the news in bed and the teenagers are stomping around getting ready so it's not like we're tiptoeing around him, and he usually bounces out of bed at around 6am.

Really though? If someone has a temperature/fever, they are ill. My DS had chicken pox early on in his school career and it took ages for the spots to scab over. However I could hardly take him to school and the absence was forgotten once it was over. I doubt it affected attainment tbh.

Hmmm... Peng.... is 'that' teacher unfortunately
OP luckily you can rest assured statistics are there to be challenged and are not gospel and are not everyone's bible by which they live their life, i do hope you trusted your instincts and kept him home, it won't affect him long term and it is laughable that anyone should suggest otherwise.

Peng, symptoms of a high temperature? Being 'hot'? Not cooling down. Can make sleep difficult, altered or disturbed. A lot like what the OP's son was experiencing.

I was not there so I cannot say for sure whether he had a temperature or not. However, neither were you. Good attendance does not affect whether or not a child actually is ill. A child's symptoms are the only real determiner.

Essie, how is your DS now? I hope he has recovered.

EssieTregowan · 08/07/2017 09:59

Thanks. He woke up at about 10am and we had a nice snuggly day. I was honest with school and the lovely receptionist said, ah, keep him home if he's tired.

Obviously by teatime he was running around like a loon, so he's not ill but was just really really tired, and probably a bit overheated.

Good for you OP, glad you had a lovely day, being flexible sometimes makes for a happy childhood Smile

Pleased he's better now, Essie.
