£60 for a private prescription because of lack of appointments

I do not blame the receptionist or the surgery, after all they can't magic up appointments.

But can't get my repeat prescription as I need a review. I get that after all I get 150 30/500mg of zapain. It would be not ethical to prescribe without a review.

Made appointment 1 got cancelled 1 day before, rebooked then that got cancelled and that was 6 weeks ago. I need my pain meds.

So managed to get a private prescription online.

Aibu to say that someone who is not able to pay would be left in pain.

That's awful. I'm not sure what someone who couldn't afford it would do. Maybe out of hours?

AlmostAJillSandwich · 06/07/2017 19:17

What excuse did they give you for cancelling your appointments? You need medication, you shouldnt be left having to pay because of their incompetence.

lovelysquish · 06/07/2017 19:18

They usually prescribe the right amount until you're able to have the review.

Crunchymum · 06/07/2017 19:19

What is the difference between getting them online and having them prescribed without a review? I assume you didn't have your review online?

caffeinestream · 06/07/2017 19:20

Can they not do a review over the phone, or do you need a physical exam/blood tests etc?

Iris65 · 06/07/2017 19:20

I have had to make a private appointment with a psychiatrist because the earliest appointment is November and I need to see someone urgently. It will be £220 but will be worth getting the help I need.

Sidge · 06/07/2017 19:21

That's really shoddy. Why couldn't they give you a week's worth until review and squeeze you in within the week, given it was them that cancelled 2 appointments?

MaQueen · 06/07/2017 19:24

That's very poor customer service. If you can't get an appointment, our surgery will issue will issue a repeat prescription so long as you can get in to see the GP within the next few weeks.

CantChoose · 06/07/2017 19:24

Did you call your GP and explain the situation? We would usually issue an emergency interim script in this situation.

Equally it is not ethical to leave you without meds. You should be prescribed enough meds to get you to your review. This is not on. I would contact the practice manager.

I have a (yearly?) meds review and have been assured that something like this wouldn't happen because they would not allow you to go without meds just because an earlier appt was not available (or in your case, because they were repeatedly cancelled).

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/07/2017 19:31

Our surgery can give you enough meds to tide you over until your review,as most surgeries will I imagine if you explain the situation.

I went private and the private doctor prescribed after a phone call
