Owww! My foot! A & E?

Stupidly rolled my foot today on uneven ground and the pain is now so bad it's keeping me awake! The top of my foot is swollen and I have cramping all up my calf. It hurts to drive and put weight on it. What have I done??? Have to take DS for a hospital appointment tomorrow - would I be wasting doctors' valuable time if I popped to A&E whilst I was there? There no minor injuries clinic at my local hospital and I don't fancy the drive anywhere further!

I was at minor injuries on Friday with DD with the same thing. They took X-rays but it wasn't broken just soft tissue damage. Ice elevation and ibruprofen have helped. DR said even if it was broken they don't plaster feet anymore and would be given a walking boot

I reckon going to A&E st s non busy time is the right thing to do. There are so many small bones in the foot that you could have hurt any of them (or indeed none!) Either way, they will be able to give you the correct advice on how to treat it.

I fell down the stairs 3 years ago. Didn't make the time to have it looked at for a fortnight and just strapped it up. The walk in clinic refused to do anything beyond tell me to RICE, and wouldn't xray.

3 years later I've paid for private physio, strapped it up, not been able to wear anything with a heel and keep turning it over.

Don't be me, get it looked at!

Hope you go to A&E.

I've not gone three times and each there's been a break (back, ankle, wrist).

I did the same several weeks ago and it was painful - enough that I went to A&E and fortunately it wasn't broken but the did advise me not to drive for a week!

It sounds like your injury is worse than mine - worth getting it checked out. Mind you, all those stretched and torn tendons will take a long time to recover anyway!!

My dad did something similar a few years ago.
He rolled his foot by stepping badly on a paving slab.
He was in a lot of pain and had a small swelling on the top of his foot.
He'd broken a metatarsal.
