Pick it up, put it in a shoe box with a towel under it and call rspca? Xx

UpLighter · 05/07/2017 00:06

I would think out of hours vet or clean up the wounds and see how it is in the morning.

If you have pet insurance check what it covers so you're not hit with unexpected bill.

NeverEnoughSleep1 · 05/07/2017 00:06

Just been to check and it's breathing really loud 😔going to call somewhere now

This page has details of rescues
www.hedgehog-rescue.org.uk/cms/find-a-rescue/

We had to take one to the local one yesterday that had got stuck in a hole in next doors garden

Dangerismymiddlename · 05/07/2017 00:11

There's details of what to do too on the main page

AlmostAJillSandwich · 05/07/2017 00:14

Rspca wildlife has a 24 hour number. Poor little guy, i hope both he, and your mischievous pupper, are both ok.

Cockstrosity · 05/07/2017 00:20

Wrap in clay and bake for an hour :)

scootinFun · 05/07/2017 00:23

Hope the hedgepig is ok

NeverEnoughSleep1 · 05/07/2017 00:40

Called the rspca I've got him in a box with food and water they said the breathing could be stress and defensive but he has an obvious wound on his back they said leave him tonight and someone will call me in the morning to see if they'll come out or not I can't leave him like that overnight he'll be in pain

FuckleberryDunne · 05/07/2017 00:50

I have to admit ild probably put the hedgehog out of its misery. It's that or take the thing for an expensive ooh vet trip.

KoalaDownUnder · 05/07/2017 00:51

I'd put it in a shoebox wrapped in a towel and drive to the nearest vet.

EveOnline2016 · 05/07/2017 00:52

I would just leave the hedgehog go, it's the bad side of nature.

Disclaimer, my bastard cat brings home so many mice, rats and bird. I think it's the circle of life.

AnathemaPulsifer · 05/07/2017 00:53

This happened to us. Was all the dog's blood. Can you see a wound of just blood?

KoalaDownUnder · 05/07/2017 00:53

Oh jeez, sorry - just realised it's midnight in the UK. (Duh).

Oh god, I don't know. Sad.

Is there an OOH vet number to call for advice? I wouldn't want to leave it in pain either.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 05/07/2017 00:54

RSPCA shouldnt charge you with it being wildlife. Most out of hours vets won't see wildlife anyway. It may well be in pain, and it's not nice, but putting it out of its misery shouldn't be an option. For one it would be traumatic to you, and secondly you'd probably cause it a whole lot more pain trying to kill it than leaving it overnight to get treatment tomorrow. There's a good chance you wouldnt be able to kill it instantly, If it's injured badly it will pass away anyway, and be less stressed passing in a box alone in a quiet corner than with a human it's terrified of trying to break its neck or similar.

SpikyCoconut · 05/07/2017 00:55

Go on wildlife pages on fb
Someone will know somewhere
There's a page called 'pigeon rescue and action ' I know not a pigeon but that page is full of animal lovers. Give your location they'll know someone .

NeverEnoughSleep1 · 05/07/2017 01:08

I called the local OOH vets and they said if I can get a log number from the RSPCA they will accept it tonight called the RSPCA back and they said they don't like giving them or for emergencies because they cost to much took loads of information said it sounds like an emergency but he needs to speak to someone else to make sure it fits the criteria and is due to call me back soon

Poor Mr Hedgehog has a nasty looking wound on his back and doubt he will last the night if he doesn't get help tonight

SouthWindsWesterly · 05/07/2017 01:10

Keep the hoglet warm - do you have any cat food? A small amount should be okay for it to eat. Will the RSPCA come out in the morning?

And deflea your dog

SouthWindsWesterly · 05/07/2017 01:11

Cross post - what's the point in being the RSPCA if you don't use the huge amount of money to protect the very wildlife the charity is supposed to protect 😡

Mrsknackered · 05/07/2017 01:12

That's fucking ridiculous. The rspca came out for a basically dead pigeon on my doorstep but won't for a wounded hedgehog?
I hope he makes it through the night OP. Sorry I can't be of any help!

SouthWindsWesterly · 05/07/2017 01:14

British hedgehog society

ManchesterBee · 05/07/2017 01:15

Poor hedgehog :(
The Rspca are hated where I live. I'm sure most do a great job but so many people locally have called for help in such situations and said they have been useless.

The vet near us just took it in, made it pain free for the night and then spoke to hedgehog rescue in the morning.

Fuck the rspca, they won't come out they never do Angry
Why i refuse to give them a penny.
Don't put it out of it's misery! They are resilient things!
Well done for not giving up op!
Keep it somewhere warm and quiet.
Don't keep it near bright light.
If you have any vets by you that are open for emergencies just take it in, they shouldn't charge.

NeverEnoughSleep1 · 05/07/2017 01:41

Took him to the OOH and poor Mr Hedgehog is dead Sad I feel awful for him
