12 year old DD wants second ear piercing?

DD has been asking for ages now. She has almost finished year 7, so is nearly 13. I think she's too young, and don't want her to look chavvy Wink but she's getting so upset, calling me 'overprotective' etc. I don't know. Do you think it's too young? AIBU?
Currently not sure what to do about it. Confused

I wouldn't have a problem with it. I don't think it looks chavvy at all.
I had my first one done when I was a baby, as soon as I was old enough my mum took me. I got my second lobe piercing done at 14. Then I was 15 when I got my first cartilage piercing in my left ear (it was the January as I was turning 16 in the April). Then in May, so the month after I turned 16 I got my second cartilage piercing done, also in my left ear.
It took my mum some convincing, but in the end she gave in (thanks to my stepdad mostly I admit).
I'm now 24 and still have them all. I was considering a third lobe piercing, but decided against it as I thought 5 in one ear would be too much, and I don't want to remove either of the top ones.
Ultimately she may just get it done in the future anyway.

I'd let her, went off and got my own second set done on my own at about the same age. Eventually let them heal over as didn't use them really then got mine re-done a year ago at the ripe old age of 37 because I fancied it. Very reversible decision.

I had my 2nd one done at the end of year 6, the day before my 11th birthday, I have definitely never looked remotely chavvy (mostly because I generally wore safety pins through them). My friend was told she had to wait til she was 16, I pierced her ears with a pin and a frozen water bottle at the back of a science lesson in year 9, it's ok though, I put the pin in the bunsen burner flame first to make sure it was sterile.

pinkyredrose · 04/07/2017 20:44

A Bunsen burner flame wouldn't sterilise, hope it turned out ok!

I got my 2nd one in left ear done at about age 13. Shared a 'set' with another girl I'd met on holiday. Don't even know what her name is now! She was from Liverpool. Hello ear twin if you're out there! (Let her op, you can barely see mine now. I think it closed up eventually)

Does her school uniform policy allow it? My DDs doesn't.

By 14 I had three earlobe piercings, a belly piercing, tragus piercing and cartilage piercing. I'm amazed my (posh private!) school let me get away with that. I went on to get more piercings after that.

I'm 32 now and I still have all the piercings I had by 24, but I've ditched the rest.

And I definitely don't look chavvy. I'm far too posh Grin

(I wear pearl earrings in my earlobes) Grin

Wouldn't be permitted at our secondary school.

Dixiechickonhols · 04/07/2017 21:17

What do uniform rules say. I know school dd is starting in September says 1 pair studs only so 1 piercing.

implantsandaDyson · 04/07/2017 21:18

I took my eldest to get her second set of piercings last week - she has just turned 12. She's already off school for the summer and her school allows a second set of earrings to be worn. I think I got mine done for my 13th birthday.

royalyfedup · 04/07/2017 23:00

They are earrings !! They can be removed .
I have a 15 yr old daughter who has a second piercing and is soon to get belly button pierced too .

I ' choose my arguements' to strict all the time and they end up sneaking around I think , let the small things go , piercings and hair dye can be removed/ grow out , tattoos and babies are permanent, don't push her to rebel it's an earring !!

My 14 yr old dd has 2 piercings in each ear and her helix pierced in her right ear too. I think it looks lovely

it's fine just please make sure she gets it done at a reputable place and not at fucking Claire's with a gun.

eatingonlyapples · 05/07/2017 02:37

also "chavvy" who the fuck is still thinking that this is a thing? like are kids still calling other kids "chavs"? only on mumsnet i guess. those kids are low income, council estate, poor outcomes children. stop demonising them. give them a fucking chance, because no one bothered with their parents.

raspberrysuicide · 05/07/2017 20:42

Where else is a good place for piercings? I'm very disappointed with Claire's, one of my holes isn't even straight so I can't put an earring in without messing about for 10 minutes.

Hulababy · 11/07/2017 20:39

DD tends to go to Blue Banana
