to ask about restless legs

Im 30, have an underactive thyroid. Generally healthy otherwise although I do have anxiety and depression but this seems under control right now.

Of late I have noticed I will sit with my toes on the floor, foot upwards and bounce my leg. Mainly done at work but has spread to home too. Have found myself doing it as a passenger in the car too.

Does anyone know what it is, what causes it and how I can get it to stop? It's not bothering me, in fact, I quite like it and miss it if I'm not doing it Confused

It's called restless leg syndrome I think. I do it when I'm stressed or nervous

That's not necessarily restless leg syndrome, it sounds like you're just jiggling your legs because of excess energy or anxiety.

Restless legs is where your legs actually hurt unless you keep them moving. Hard to describe the pain, a sort of burning tickling crawling feeling. It's awful!

I got it when I was first pregnant and then it went away, but it's noever gone after my second. I can't sit down and watch films or lay back on the sofa in the evening etc. I end up just going to bed if it hurts too much Sad

I have restless legs sometimes (mainly in bed or lying down on the sofa - bloody annoying, nothing stops it) but equally I do this whole leg bouncing thing as part of my Asperger's - I think it's a way of releasing nervous energy as I do it more when I'm stressed. The difference between them is that restless legs isn't (easily) stoppable and is uncomfortable, the second is comforting.

I wouldnt say Im overly stressed, anxious or nervous. If anything, a bit bored.

+1 sparkle

RLS gives you a really awful feeling in your legs that you can only get rid of by moving them (and it comes back when you stop).

I only get restless legs when I'm really overtired but it's the most horrible feeling. I describe it as being like your legs feel sick! It's as if the insides of your legs are all bruised and also unbearably itchy. Nauseating!

The jiggling sounds like a self-comfort thing. Both DH and I do something similar (he rubs his feet together rhythmically, I sway my knee from side to side!

I get itchy twitchy legs. Some nights I really know it's happening but sometimes only my partner is aware of it Grin.

I've had blood tests for b12, folate, thyroid and all came back normal.

I don't bother exercising during the day as I feel I run 10k at night.
