To be angry work won't pay me?

I work part time in a small company 15> people from 1st June I started working 10 more hours per week and had 25% pay rise. Work were aware because of their request for more hours, I needed to put DS in nursery which was going to cost £450 a month. Payday came and I got paid the same as the month before, leaving me approx £600 short.

I raised it with the accountant who said MD hadn't told him to adjust it and he couldn't add it until next payday as the payroll deadline had passed. I checked yesterday and MD still hadn't confirmed new salary so will chase him later today.

Where do I stand with the missing money? I really need it to as I have £10 in my bank due to paying the nursery fees. I tho guy perhaps I could raise an invoice for the extra hours and get them to pay it like that (I'll sort out the tax as do some self employed work anyway) or is it easy for them to do an adjustment and just being difficult about it?

So after zero luck with MD I spoke to line manager who demanded £500 was paid to me by 3pm tomorrow, or he would not be coming to work for the rest of the week.

Money is in my accountant already, MD has apologised and promised any additional amendments due will be paid in the next payroll

I like the sound of that line manager!

n0ne · 04/07/2017 20:47

Good! They were feeding you BS. I've been an accountant for 20 years in different companies and on multiple occasions have made urgent payments to an employee if the payroll was calculated wrongly.

Your line manager sounds fab!

PoisonousSmurf · 04/07/2017 21:01

Result! Smile

Wow. That is an awesome line manager! Really pathetic that owner couldn't just pull it out of his pocket on a personal level if nothing else.

RandomMess · 04/07/2017 21:08

Good for your line manager, talk about a crock full of sh*t for an excuse of course they could advance you an amount and then sort it out in the following payroll

My manager is awesome, I'm going through ivf at the moment (hence emotions!) and after every hospital appointment he leaves a costa and chocolate twist for me on my desk for when I get in. He is the definition of a gentleman Star

I love your manager too! Hope ivf is not stressing you out too much and more than anything hope for positive results for you!

Drinaballerina · 04/07/2017 21:41

Glad to hear it. I was going to say it's a bit more difficult now with rti (you have to tell HMRC before you do any payments). We've stopped doing regular advances for that reason. But it's not impossible and should certainly be done under your circumstances.

ThomasRichard · 04/07/2017 21:54

Excellent, well done your manager!

Moanyoldcow · 04/07/2017 22:38

Your manager rocks!!

Great outcome OP.

pluck · 05/07/2017 07:47

Well done, line manager, and shame on the "bigger" bosses who had to be forced.

Mulledwine1 · 05/07/2017 09:34

I love your line manager too! A-MAZ-ING person!
