To wish Donald Trump and the Pope would fuck off?

This is getting ridiculous now.

The ruling has been made, it is awful for the family (I'm not minimising, there are no words to say how awful it must be) but this ruling is based on the clinical / medical advice from the best children's hospital in the land, who have been involved in the child's treatment from day 1, so why has it now become a religious / political issue?

I've refrained from commenting on this case previously but the recent events have made me so mad.

Don't see any problem with what the pope has said.

Trump on the other hand is a mororb

I thought that why some people have taken issue with what the Pope said is that he said Charlie’s parents should be able to "accompany and treat their child until the end". (bold text added by me).

Some people have taken the treat bit to mean support for taking Charlie to America for the experimental therapy, although it’s a statement that is open to interpretation.

Perhaps it would have been better for the Pope to leave the treat bit out, but I agree he is definitely not in the same category as Trump who

  1. seems to be using the case to score popularity points and
  2. appears to have no idea how the law and the courts system work.

I feel desperately sorry for the parents, especially now that Trump is exploiting their suffering.

goodbyestranger · 04/07/2017 09:54

But the mainstream press is reporting that the parents are in conversation with the Trump administration, so they're engaging.

Agree that it's the use of the word 'treat' which is being focused on.

Charlies Army believe the pope has said the Vatican hospital is open and waiting and ready for Charlie to go there to recover away from the murderers. And they are asking if he has a passport to fly him there.

MorrisZapp · 04/07/2017 09:58

I'm no fan of Catholic doctrine but the current pope is as modern and liberal as could be hoped for. I don't question his faith or his intentions and believe him to be a loving man.

Please don't make him share a sentence with that vile, venal sex offender.

goodbyestranger · 04/07/2017 10:00

It's incredibly offensive to use the word murderers to describe the medical staff at GOSH.

Sadly, Charlie has no prospect of recovery.

x2boys · 04/07/2017 10:05

i think everyone should but out there was never going to be a happy ending for Charlie sadly, the BBC had a feature this morning from a man whose son had the treatment that Charlie was intially considered for and apparently had made good progress [i dint watch it as was doing the school run] but cant see how it would help the parents in anyway its giving them false hope.

Birdsgottaf1y · 04/07/2017 10:22

""so why has it now become a religious / political issue?""

It became a political issue once the Parental Rights were removed. The hospital's actions have kept Charlie alive for longer, that does need questioning.

In hindsight, it would have been better for him to go and die during the journey.

How medical science is used, should have various POV coming from different perspectives. So shoul dhow those in authority use their powers.

I don't like the concept of religion, but as said by a pp, he is a good Pope.

Crunchymum · 04/07/2017 11:05

The Pope didn't need to make public comment and add further fuel to the fire?

It's not liberal / forward thinking, its inciting more bad feelings about an impossible situation?

YANBU - at all.. about both!

WankYouForTheMusic · 04/07/2017 12:24

He didn't need to, but it doesn't follow that it was inappropriate for him to try and dampen the flames. Nor is it necessarily the case that his statement has incited more bad feelings. Yes, silly cunts have used it as fuel for their silly cunting, but equally, the parents have been quieter for the last few days, when saying more would probably have caused more trouble. We don't know why. The Pope's comment could well be part of that. None of us know either way.

Birds I see your point about hindsight, but I don't suppose either the hospital or courts could justify a decision made on the basis of letting the parents take him on a journey that would probably kill him. It would likely have ended his suffering earlier but not sure how it could work wrt medical ethics.

user1478518843 · 04/07/2017 13:19

Some of the US (cough Fox News cough) coverage of the case is truly disgusting and blatant political point scoring.

WankYouForTheMusic · 04/07/2017 13:37

Well that was to be expected. If the court had ruled to allow him to go, and it had attracted sufficient attention, they might well be shitstorming about foreigners coming and taking up the time of US medical experts instead. Or blaming NHS conspiracies if he'd died on the way.

nocoolnamesleft · 04/07/2017 14:15

All that is being done now is to futilely prolong this poor Charlie's dying process. Not get him better. Not improve his quality of life. Not keep him alive. But just to drag out how long it takes him to die, continuing to inflict painful treatments upon him. Basically, torturing a dying baby. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely believe his parents are motivated by overwhelming love and despair. But some of these outside commentators and supports are cruel and heartless short sighted idiots.
