Perfume at the gym

The last two times I've been to a class at the gym the person next to me has been wearing perfume (two different people) and it made me feel sick. It was a spinning class so I couldn't move away from them. Is wearing perfume to the gym normal and I'm just being over sensitive or is it inconsiderate to other gym users?

Regular gym goer here. Strong smells make me feel ill when I'm working out : but I only really take issue with BO - the smell of that can be unbearable. What is also bad is really strong food smells which inevitably come out with sweat. BUT - you have to be reasonable, problem is a lot of gyms really bunch machines together so you smell everything.

My only thing I have a big issue with is BO- ideally no smells but can live with light perfume and stuff.

I've struggled with cloying heavy perfume drifting over from the old ladies in the slow lane at swimming. The combination of heavy breathing from exercise, the perfume and the humidity of the pool area is not a pleasant combination. These were morning sessions, so the people wearing it wouldn't have done much else with the day first.

I'm not keen on purfume anyway and don't quite see the purpose of it. I'll use a roll on anti-perspirant where needed, and don't see the benefit of adding another layer of different smell on top.
