Beyoncé and Jay-Z trying to trademark their children's names again

BBC article reports the twins' names may have been revealed via a trademark application. The first application, for Blue Ivy, was rejected as a wedding business already had the name, but supposedly they wanted to use it in connection with a line of baby products.

Am I missing something or are they literally trying to trademark their children so they can make money off them? Confused

I think what they are actually doing is trying to trademark their children so someone else doesn't do it and nake money off of them. But then again they are good business people and maybe are thinking of their children using their names for business in the future.

VladmirsPoutine · 01/07/2017 23:21

What's the issue here? Unless you are Beyonce or Jay Z asking if you are being unreasonable?
If the legal powers that be rule that the names can't be trademarked then so be it.

Otherwise, why the confusion?

Terfing · 01/07/2017 23:23

I agree that it is probably to stop others from trademarking them, which is fair enough really.

34AQuid · 01/07/2017 23:24

Sir Carter? Oh my....

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 01/07/2017 23:27

Sir Carter? Oh my....

I think that they may have mis-spelt Cicada Wink

ChocolateFrogs · 01/07/2017 23:28

HOW can I link 'Sir'?

And isn't 'Rumi' the name of a Persian poet?

I really don't see how it can be done Confused

ChocolateFrogs · 01/07/2017 23:28

*how can they trademark 'sir'? Blush

Sorry! I don't know where my original sentence came from!

implantsandaDyson · 01/07/2017 23:34

No they are trying to stop other businesses licensing the names.

NotYoda · 01/07/2017 23:43

Oh I do so admire them. Such great role models. What a strong woman etc etc etc

OldHabitsDieHard · 01/07/2017 23:45

What I thought they were Shawn and Bea?!

lazylab · 01/07/2017 23:46

No they are trying to stop other businesses licensing the names.
Just like you do Grin, it's all ultimately about money.

MrsOverTheRoad · 01/07/2017 23:48

As Sequins said, they're protecting their child. They live in the spotlight...anyone could name ANY business Blue Ivy.

MeanAger · 01/07/2017 23:52

The thing is as soon as their babies' names are/were announced there would be people/companies buying up every single domain with those names and trying to make a profit either from selling them back to J&Bs people or from selling products under those names. If J&B trademark the names it means other people can't make money off their babies names.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 01/07/2017 23:57

Why would anyone want to name a business Blue Ivy?

Sounds like a skin infection and doesn't properly roll off the tongue.

MrsOverTheRoad · 01/07/2017 23:58

Joffrey well that's immaterial. Neither here nor there...they liked the name.

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 02/07/2017 00:00

"Sir" is just mad, surely. But I guess it's no more weird than Earl or Duke or Prince Confused

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 02/07/2017 00:08

Yes, they like the names but I don't think it's in danger of being copied.

Therefore trademarking it is pointless.

redladybird · 02/07/2017 00:10

Think Victoria Beckham has done the same with her kids names.

MrsOverTheRoad · 02/07/2017 00:14

Joffrey of course it is! People release all kinds of shite and try to attach them to celebs.

Multiple cheapo kids clothing lines will do it.
