It's quite well known amongst the staff what procedure im having , however , when it comes to actually having the surgery and giving a sick note I'll ask the gp to write " Post operative recovery "
The procedure is a planned one but I'm worried itlk be classed as cosmetic
Ive been with the company for many years 10+ years and I know that if they can get out of paying me sick pay them they will
Can I just have on my sicknnote " post operative recovery " witgout actually telling them what the operation is
To be honest it's personal ( even tho I have told many ) and don't want the higher bosses knowing

Surely if your doc signs you unfit to work then it doesn't matter why, your Dr has made that decision.
I had bariatric surgery and sick pay off work, thry just wrote abdominal surgery on the note, and I even had a conversation with the Dr about it as I didn't want them to know. Dr said it was none of their business, if Dr writes a letter saying you are unfit to work, then that's the bottom line.

Red that is just appalling! Wishing you the very best.

An ex colleague of mine had laser eye surgery and had paid sick leave for it.

some of these stories are shocking - reconstructive surgery after mastectomy, donating kidneys, bariatric surgery - a facelift is one thing but these are not comparable procedures. I would write to my MP, petition etc because that is not right

Unfortunately before the government vilified the sick and disabled in the gutter press they did the same will civil servants, remember all the lazy comments and gold plated pensions they mentioned? Paid work and play?

This is what it has resulted in but you can bet your bottom dollar the MP's would be paid for time off no matter what. Part of me thinks bollocks to them I will stay on dialysis and cost them a fortune but it makes you feel really shit and takes over your life so gotta be sensibleGrin

My DP is taking a risk doing this and he has gone to work everyday for 35 years without one day sick unlike some who take a week off for a sneeze.

It makes me so angry but I have to keep my blood pressure low as I've not had my meds yetGrin

I will let you all know if we win the battle.

Xx

Years ago I had to take sick leave to have my gall bladder removed (which is elective surgery, believe me I didn't want to but it was necessary). I was told that my boss, who could be a bit thick, said "Whatever is she having that done for?" as if it was something you would do for fun. I was made to feel as if I was causing a major inconvenience as well. You know, some bosses are total shits.
