We are being latched onto- in this country

Following on from a thread about a couple being latched into abroad, we are having the same in the this country. I can't believe what is happening.
We are the lakes in a caravan, arrived last weekend, we are here for two weeks. Next caravan has been empty till on Wednesday another family came.

They knocked on our caravan door and introduced themselves as "our new neighbours" Hmm. They then asked us over for a drink that night which we declined saying DS would be in bed. The women said oh he will be fine leave him Hmm
When I said we would not be doing this she said "oh well maybe we can go out together one day"
I replied saying we had already decided what we were doing most days and she said "oh we will join you"
Since then every time we go out for a walk or go to the car one of them comes out their caravan.

They have tried to join us on a walk but we said we just wanted time with our DS, she then said she would just send her children with usHmm I replied that I would not feel ok with being responsible for that many children. She looked out put and kind of stormed off so we thought that was that.
Today every time we go near a window they rush to one of their windows to wave, I was doing the washing up and the couple were just stood there waving at us the whole time. Hmm
We then went to get in the car to go out and they came rushing out to ask were we were going, we said bowness we think and they said "oh us to" we went to Ambleside and Hawkshead instead.

Tonight when we got back we thought that must have done it, surely they will take the hint now but no, he came running out saying they must have missed us in Bowness but what are we doing tomorrow, my DH says "look we are not being funny but we have come to spend some rare time together as a family" he looks at us and says "Oh Ok".
Fine minutes later there is a knock on the door and it is their kids wanting to take our DS out to play. I said he is only three so he needs to stay in sight. Next thing the mum comes round the corner and says "oh well in that case let's all go for a walk"
I just look at her in disbelief and shut the door". DH then goes to do the washing up and again they are stood at the widow waving.
I never really believed people like this actually exist until now and I always thought that if we are ever latched onto we could be assertive and make it plain that we wanted to be on our own- some people really do not take the hint.
I would have been happy for their kids to play with DS now and again even thought they are quite a bit older and it would have been fine having the odd chat for five minutes but this is too much.
My DH has just been up to the office to see if we can move to the caravans parks sister site in another part of the lakes and we can just say we have had to go home for an emergency. We are packing up tomorrow and going plus paying another £80 to move but I can't take this for another week. Sometimes being blunt really doesn't work.

Just wondering... . Maybe the over friendly neighbour's have learning difficulties?

JamesBlonde1 · 01/07/2017 09:53

Ha a I love this. So pleased you had the wit to request a different site. I would have assumed we were stuck and lumbered.

Just imagine... some poor folk must have people like that as neighbours who they're stuck with!

Glad to hear you moved without any drama! Knocking on the window would seriously creep me out. I'm guessing they were put out by the rejection and just got drunk on their own. Does make you wonder if you stayed whether they would have got nasty.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 01/07/2017 10:08

Sorry! Ignore that last; it was the start of a post which would have been hilarious when I started writing it at 8 o'clock! Posted now by accident.

LottieDoubtie · 01/07/2017 10:11

Just read the update about knocking on DS's window that is beyond creepy. Shock good on your DS.

Hope you can now have a lovely holiday! At least the campsite owners seem normal...

LottieDoubtie · 01/07/2017 10:11

Opps good on your DH!

Have a look at this website. It's fab. I can lose hours on this site. Something for everyone but more especially 74 places to stay where you are on your own. We have stayed in one, it was amazing. We had our own lake, wood, woodfired pizza oven, outdoor shower and total privacy. I even saw one on it's own island but I can't find it now. Sad

Bosabosa · 01/07/2017 10:12

You made it yippeeeeee!

Anatidae · 01/07/2017 10:12

Knocking on the window at night crosses the line from 'we will laugh about this later' to 'creepy as.'
Let the site manager know about the last bit

I suggest you report me as a troll then Spongysand

Longhairmightcare · 01/07/2017 10:27

OMG sooo creepy. Do you think he banged on DS window hoping he'd wake up, then you'd get up to see to him, they'd see your lights go on and they could knock and see if you were up for a bit of swinging, since you're up anyway like?

TBH that's the preferred explanation as other theories are a bit more sinister Sad

Glad you're away from them now, and enjoy the rest of your hols.

pilates · 01/07/2017 10:41

Omg, this is so unnerving. I would definitely report the last incident to the site manager. They need to be made aware of the unhinged parents. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

SpongySand · 01/07/2017 10:47

Not saying you're a troll just think its a good story. Either way its an entertaining thread and i will keep reading!

apostropheuse · 01/07/2017 10:59

Sounds like a 1970s psychological thriller. Can't help visualising men with yellow big collared nylon shirts with tank tops over them...and corduroy trousers. Men with moustaches and sideburns. The women with flared jeans, ribbed polo neck sweaters and waist-length hair with a middle parting.

morningtoncrescent62 · 01/07/2017 11:11

Just read the full thread. Glad you managed to get away, OP, I was holding my breath for a few pages back there! Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Partypolitics99 · 01/07/2017 11:16

The managers wife said she would come straight and tell us if they hear anything. If they knock on the door tonight I will jump out of my skin

I wouldn't pay any fee to move under these circumstances.

IggyAce · 01/07/2017 11:29

Thanks for the update OP, enjoy the rest of the holiday.

LambChopsMcGee · 01/07/2017 11:40

Wow, this was...gripping... So glad you escaped OP!
Someone said earlier there are two types of people re: meeting people on holiday. I think I am in between though! I like to meet people and make holiday friends to have a drink or go exploring (if they want to!!), but am quite introverted and would never ever latch on like that! I can't believe the nerve of some people!
Hope you enjoy the rest of your break!

Ohb0llocks · 01/07/2017 11:45

Creepy bastards 😱

TheoriginalLEM · 01/07/2017 11:51

Thank you for this thread OP i know other people's misfortune shouldn't cheer me up but it was very comical and ended well. Anyone else think Spongysand is the over enthusiastic camper?

We are considering camping in the lakes in august - tent camping. What's it like OP?

questionsandquestions · 01/07/2017 12:00

Relief, OP, you're safe and well.
Now you can enjoy the rest of the holiday and the rest of us can rethink anything involving caravans and tents for ours. I've always been a bit worried about proximity/noise (although not until now nutters) and after this, I think it's worth springing the extra for the furnished holiday let house...

but if you do run into them on a day out, don't hesitate to come back and let us know.

Also thanks to the mumsnetter who just said she's part of an occasional swinging couple with very good social skills (always fun to wonder).

WineAndTiramisu · 01/07/2017 12:00

Wow, I never thought people could be that thick skinned... Luckily my DP has excellent "fuck off" vibes, but that would be my idea of a nightmare holiday!
