Constipation argh

RodeoDriveBaby · 30/06/2017 20:53

Sorry for gross nature of thread. But I have suffered from constipation since my DS was born (17 months ago!!!!). It's driving me potty (scuse the pun). I've had blood tests and all was fine and take laxatives etc etc when it gets really bad. They do work but then I just get constipated again.

I drink loads of water, I get enough fibre, I put flaxseed in my breakfast, I take probiotics.

Any miracle remedies?!?! It seems to get worse around ovulation time.

Fleet enemas really get the job done and FAST. I had to use one after surgery once. I was so miserable I wanted the earth to swallow me. My doctor recommended it and it saved the day. I'm sorry you're so miserable!

Moanyoldcow · 30/06/2017 20:58

Fybogel twice a day. I take it as I have really awful piles and it makes things a little more bearable Blush

And lactulose too.

RodeoDriveBaby · 30/06/2017 20:59

I've got movicol from the GP, it doesn't seem to do much. Maybe I'll switch to fybogel.

Try dulcolax or generic sodium picosulphate. Buy over the counter at the pharmacy. That works a treat for me. Lactulose or fybogel soften things up but sodium picosulphate actually makes your colon move it downwards (gross I know..sorry)

DJBaggySmalls · 30/06/2017 21:37

You can get psyllium husk from most Asian supermarkets or online for a fraction of the cost of Fybogel. Make up a teaspoon with a mug of water or diluted juice.
They also sell unbranded Dulcolax at the pound shops.

Gingernaut · 30/06/2017 21:38

Dried apple rings.

Chew thoroughly. Don't eat a large packet of them.

The lumps of dried apple soak up water as they go through you and really clear any blockages.

FuzzyCatinABox · 30/06/2017 21:38

I use fleet enemas when mine is bad.

ThisBabyIsAnOctopus · 30/06/2017 21:39

Try drinking even more water - even if you think you're drinking plenty. Couldn't believe the difference it made to me

RodeoDriveBaby · 30/06/2017 21:41

I drink 3 litres!!!

Dulcolax works but it gives me agonising cramps and diarrhoea.

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 30/06/2017 21:42

Oranges, apricots and peaches - and you'll be squitting rapidly.

Aquamarine1029 · 30/06/2017 21:43

You won't get any cramps with a Fleet. Of you're really miserable, I recommend you give it a try. They really work.

RodeoDriveBaby · 30/06/2017 21:44

Where do I get a fleet from? I'll try anything!!

Prunes, fresh or dried. Eat loads of that, they work really well. Went through a few bags after DS was born, it worked better than lactulose (which gave breastfed DS diarrhea).

RodeoDriveBaby · 30/06/2017 21:51

Done prunes too

Sorry not meaning/wanting to shoot down suggestions!!

OP posts:
RodeoDriveBaby · 30/06/2017 21:52

Might go back to GP. Maybe I need a scan or something.

EatTheChocolateTeapot · 30/06/2017 21:53

Pectin in apples and jam is supposed to help too but really you can't beat prunes/plums.

user1498051868 · 30/06/2017 21:53

Olive oil ..tablespoon in the morning And one at night

EatTheChocolateTeapot · 30/06/2017 21:55

Ah, sorry, just saw your update, good luck, I hope it improves soon.
Yes, go to GP, it might also be something else, I was very constipated when I had hypothyroidism for example.

TrueColors · 30/06/2017 21:55

Bisacodyl suppositories are your friend. Combine with oral lactulose.

RodeoDriveBaby · 30/06/2017 21:56

I've had blood tests to check my thyroid and whatever else they test for but they all came back normal.

Have you tried magnesium supplements? They have really worked for me; transformational, really.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 30/06/2017 22:07

Try

Seeing your GP
Those stock cube like constipation surges they sell in Holland Barrett
Also stomachs crunching exercises

If none of these work back to GP

olivesnutsandcheese · 30/06/2017 22:07

Second taking magnesium supplements. Give it a go. Sorry you're having a rubbish time of it

user1470064958 · 30/06/2017 22:08

You need to take up to six sachets of movicol to start with to move the blockage and then one a day to keep you regular. I have had ibs for years and was recommended this after a serious bout during pregnancy.

Porridge helps and a really strong coffee sometimes gets you moving .

RodeoDriveBaby · 30/06/2017 22:12

Ah I've only been taking one sachet a day
