AIBU to ask you about Sky Q?

I'm about to do my annual call to Sky to haggle our bill down. We currently have Sky+ HD plus 1 multi-room box, fibre broadband and line rental (but no talk package as don't really use landline for outgoing calls) and it's costing about £90 a month.

I know if I phone they are going to offer something to do with Sky Q and I have a couple of questions!

If you have Sky Q multiroom can you have unlimited mini boxes? We currently have Sky in our lounge and bedroom but we're having some work done and we'll have two functioning lounges plus would quite like to keep sky in the bedroom and possibly in DD's bedroom next year (she's 10).

Is it worth the extra money if you don't use it to watch on mobile devices? My friend swears by the Sky app for her son in restaurants but I'l admit to kids with tablets in restaurants being a pet hate!

TIA.

We got it so that dd could watch it in her room without the need for additional cables. She loves it. I note what others have said about stuff being deleted, but have never had stuff deleted from the box. But stuff downloaded to mobile devices eg tablets does have a shelf life and it does disappear from there.

I don't like the home screen, I much prefer the Sky+ homescreen, but I am getting used to it. I also dislike the fact that when I turn my tv on it automatically goes to the Q homescreen rather than the last channel that I watched (although the channel is shown in a small screen.

Had it just over a year and it's ok, multi-viewing is great but ask for a booster box.
The great thing is you can record 4/5 things all at the same time, whilst watching something else.

Have had sky Q about a month now. I love that I can carry on watching something in bed, and am thinking about getting a box for dd's room. Although I find the boxes get very hot, is this normal??

We have it, wasn’t fussed at all about having it, but it’s great! Much better, easier to use and more intuitive than the old boxes. I worried that we’d have problems with internet and speeds but has been perfect so far (about 5months), it’s also strengthened out WiFi signal throughout the house as the boxes form their own networks.

It was cheaper per month for us and would defo recommend!

Good; Sky Q box is always under warranty.
Storage is far greater than Sky HD.
If you have recorded a series, it will automatically show the following recorded episode without you having to do anything.
The voice control remote is awesome.
The box is much more compact.
Downloading films or on demand is much much faster.
Bad; The menu screen is not as easy to navigate around so browsing channels feels like a lot more work.
When watching a prerecorded series, it's not as obvious which episodes you have already watched and which you have yet to watch.
You never own the box.

I have EE and get on fine with that, like that I can just stream on demand as I want, so if little one wants Bing I can find loads of episodes and play instantly. Whenever I visit relative with Sky Q, we have to wait for each episode to download and it's so annoying.

For the extra flexibility, you can run the Sky Q app on your smartphone and tablets that helps you to watch your recordings and live tv within the home and stream & play synchronal content once you are far away from the house. If you can select the sky Q 2TB box you then you can have 2 devices playing content at the same time and sky Q 1TB box supports only 1 device.
