Hi, on a Facebook selling group someone was advertising a faulty TV for $85.
It was advertised and clarified to be a "42.
I'm waiting on it being delivered as we speak but the seller messaged me (then stopped replying so I presume is en route) saying
"By the way I don't know if I told you but it's a "32, I'm on my way now"
I replied with a confused emoji and a "well you said "42" and a screen shot of the advert stating "42. It hasn't be read, she hasn't replied, and presuming it's not an oversight (ie it is a 42 and she's just confused) would I be u to refuse the sale when she comes here?
I'm trying to stick to a reasonably tight budget I already have a "32 tv but it's a bit small for what I use it for (gaming) I can easily repair the TV but tbh I don't want it if it isn't a "42, as I already have a "32 and it'll be basically useless to me and I'll have to go through the expense and fuss of fixing it up, for something I already have!
I don't know when to expect the seller only that they're on their way.
I'm sat out front wondering what the fuck to say and if I'd be U to refuse the sale when they've gone through the trouble of delivering for me
Sad

Yeah, she's a dick. Good for you.

How about the time they cost you, hanging around for an item wrongly described? You may have cancelled something important to wait in.

Oh it's a 32"! Well too bad you had a wasted drive - your ad said it was 42"

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 30/06/2017 09:00

Oops too late, well she was nasty wasn't she!

Asmoto · 30/06/2017 09:01

You a time wasting cunt? What a bloody cheek she has! She didn't deserve your business whatever size telly she was flogging! Hope you find another 42" soon, OP, sold by a reasonable human being next time!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 30/06/2017 09:04

"I get a sense of... pride (not sure that's the right word) when I build or repair something and then can use it"

A sense of accomplishment, maybe? Although pride would be ok too.

Stupid cheeky woman trying to palm it off on you despite lying in the ad - glad you sent her on her way! Can't be doing with fakey sellers. Angry

StealthPolarBear · 30/06/2017 09:04

And this helps to explain why these sorts of typos matter!

She's the time wasting cunt! What a chancer.

becotide · 30/06/2017 09:09

What a rude woman, how dare she!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 30/06/2017 09:10

DOn't think it was a typo though, SPB - she was asked to confirm it was a 42" tv as advertised, and she did.

StealthPolarBear · 30/06/2017 09:12

Hmm I assumed she'd still been confused at that point..
What's ten inches between strangers after all?

FizzyGreenWater · 30/06/2017 09:13

Total chancer.

HotelEuphoria · 30/06/2017 09:25

She is nuts, who would buy something 10 inches smaller than what they agreed and be OK about it?

Who would say "oh its 32" not 42", I'm setting off"

You just wouldn't.

Butterymuffin · 30/06/2017 09:28

That wasn't a typo, that was an attempt to lie about the item and get you to accept it. Good for you for not taking it.

flickerty · 30/06/2017 09:34

Argh, its a shame you're in the states OP as I am just about to throw away our 55", I'm sure it can be fixed but there are no TV repair people anywhere near us apparently (and DH is hyperventilating at not being able to watch sports for more than 12 hours so has ordered a new one already) Hmm

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 30/06/2017 09:36

Australia, I believe, flickerty.

ThePants999 · 30/06/2017 09:37

You were absolutely right to decline it as not as advertised.

I totally disagree with ThouShallNotPass, though. If something is advertised as not working, and you agree to buy it, you don't then later refuse because the problem happens not to be what you guessed it might be!

ThouShallNotPass · 30/06/2017 13:38

Nope, sorry PP, there's a massive difference if the seller has said it's not working because of X problem (like needs a button replaced) and it's actually been dropped and smashed to hell.
"Not working" can mean a number of things and if the seller has said it's because of a specific issue then the buyer shouldn't have to agree the sale if they find out that the seller lied and it is in fact, irreparable.
