...to fund the kids activities??

DSs school seems always to have some fundraising thing on the go YET todays letter asks for £1 to cover materials for a themed day they are having - I know its only £1 but just what do we raise all this money for ????

That's a very valid question - they should show you what the money's spent on.

KittyLetteMeEatAnEasterEgg · 22/03/2007 16:09

we used to do alot of fundraising in primary school, but it was never for the school it was for 'cafod' 'st josephs penny' ect

are you sure the money raised goes to the school and not charities?

unknownrebelbang · 22/03/2007 16:10

Ask.

beckybrastraps · 22/03/2007 16:27

Are the fairs/raffles run by the school or the PTA. Some of the parents on our PTA are absolutely adamant that money raised by the PTA must not be used for materials etc, but only for 'enrichment' projects, and big projects at that: play equipment etc. And the school has to come an ask the PTA for the money. It doesn't go straight into the school's account.

Lucycat · 22/03/2007 16:32

Does the school not tell you what the money raised is for?

recently we have refurbished the Junior library and Junior playground and all the classrooms now have interactive whiteboards. We will provide £2 per child to go towards the cost of trips but stuff like Arts week - your £1 - will not be covered. It's certainly worth asking though!

kslatts · 22/03/2007 16:34

Our school tends to use the money raised for something particular, for example the last project was new outdoor equipment and they had a chart in the office so you could see how much they had raised.

Whizzz · 22/03/2007 16:49

Yes I will ask for more info in general as to what PTA money goes to ... it just seems to be never ending!

we tend to have big projects on the go (just got a new gym ) but my kids school use some to fund special events

DanielAndOmi · 22/03/2007 19:59

same at my ds's school. The PTA funds biggish projects and also some 'extras', like getting a theatre group to come to school. Interestingly, some parents have apparently been complaining that the PTA should be funding another teaching assistant. I'm sure the school could do with one, but I just don't think that's up to the PTA!
