AIBU to feel low & privacy violated after a failed job interview?

Ok, I haven't got real work experience at all apart from a voluntary job about 10 years ago. Now I need a job desperately and I have applied for over 100 & I managed to get 2 interviews yesterday.

I just got an email now to say they won't be taking my application further & I feel down & low and feel violated because they obviously have/ took all my details at the interview- copy of my passport etc. I know it's the norm but why do I feel this way?

AIBU TO FE VIOLATED IN THIS WAY?

YANBU to be a bit disappointed about not getting a job you wanted (everyone always is) but YABVU to think they've invaded your privacy! What do you think they'll do with a photocopy of your passport? Because I can tell you now that they'll shred it.

Thats a bit of an extreme reaction tbh - confirming identity of applicants is pretty standard
Were they unpleasant during the interview ? Is that having an influence on how you view this ?

Confused

It's totally unreasonable to feel invaded. Thinking clearly now and I am like what was I thinking feeling invaded🙄

Yep, YABU. This is fairly standard stuff. And it doesn't really sound like they've taken any private information from you. Information that's personal to you, yes, but not private.

YABU

I'm sorry you didn't get the job but of course they have to verify your identity and right to work here BEFORE they offer you a job. Otherwise if it turns out you don't have right to work here then they've wasted time and money and turned down other candidates who could've actually done the job

Ah don't be hard on yourself I imagine it was just a whole host of emotions and disapointment that got the better of you. Good luck with the job hunt though.

SnapCackleFlop · 29/06/2017 18:18

It must be a hard time and applying for a big number of jobs would leave lots of people feeling a bit vulnerable.

Like Monkey said you'll be going through a lot of emotions :(

Down the road you'll have a good job and will be able to look back at things with a whole different perspective.

Good luck with the job hunting Flowers

It's a legal requirement to establish someone's right to work in the UK before an offer of employment can be made- hence why you were asked to provide your passport.

Do you usually have such an emotional reaction to admin? What happens when you renew your car tax?!

YANBU -- Interviews are STRESSFUL! Your feelings are valid. It is hard starting out and you are not used to the process.

Instead of feeling bad about this maybe you should see the positive? You did get two interviews despite lack of experience and you can use them as practice for the next interview you get. You will toughen up after you have had a few interviews under your belt.

Picklemuncher · 29/06/2017 18:35

And good luck!

last time I went for an interview I had to take almost every certificate I owned. I work part time in a prison also and they have access to my facebook, everything I write on here and my emails should they want to see it.
I don't feel violated, if I didn't want them to see all that stuff I'd just stay at home and live on the dole.
