I moved the bin yesterday (which is emptied each day!) to find several bugs scattering! They were very difficult to kill, they wouldn't die! I've also found more in a utility cupboard near the bin, they seem to be hiding in the gaps under the skirting, oh and 1 in the bathroom. I feel rather sick not to mention itchy all over at the thought! My house is clean honest!! How do I start getting rid? I've attached a pic for identification if anyone can.

These are definitely a new thing, I've never seen them before.

Looks a bit like a longhorn beetle which bores in wood. Common in new builds apparently.

Herewegoagain01

Just googled that and read a link about 'house longhorn beetles' that is definitely what it looks like, although apparently they are pretty much exclusive to London/Surrey and I am up in Scotland Confused

Dermestes beetles maybe?
www.westlothian.gov.uk/article/3423/Dermestes-Beetles

Very common. We get them in our kitchen around the bin sometimes too (we're also in Scotland). They're a nightmare to get rid of and tend to live under the floorboards.

Yes! It's definitely looks like them. Not good that they are difficult to get rid of! Any tips for doing so? I've cleaned every floor and under and behind all units etc in every room.

That's not a cockroach . I don't know what it is but it's not a cockroach. I speak as someone who lives in a hot country and sees cockroach in the street regularly.

Brazenhussy0 · 02/07/2017 20:23

Oops, sorry, didn't mean to leave you hanging there OP!

Unfortunately, we didn't find a long-term solution. Daily bleaching and mopping seems to keep the numbers down but we had to resort to calling in the professionals eventually.
