If you buy something (in my case, studded boots) and your friend comments "I'm sure it suits you", is this a dig?

Yeah that's kinda her personality so I hope she's not doing it to me!

In that case I reckon it was a dig, that's how I would interpret it.

Whoops sorry didn't finish!! She might be the type to say things like that to make herself feel better - it's her issue. Just be lovely and say something like thanks! I hope they do! Or something cheerful - I would anyway

Unless she's constantly making sly digs at you I would take it to mean that they're not her cup of tea/wouldn't suit here but that she thinks you would good in them

Sounds like you should keep the boots and ditch the 'friend'
