To feel discriminated against by jet2

So I'm flying to Spain on Friday and want to take a car seat and buggy- you can, but only free if up to 10kgs anything over you pay excess baggage. No problem I don't mind paying.

My annoyance is i know these two items will be over 10kgs so I've asked if I can check one in - like you would if golf clubs or skis. They won't allow this....

So to take golf clubs is £25 each way. Excess baggage is £12 per kilo. So if I'm over 2kgs over (which I will be) I'm going to be paying much more than if I was taking my skis with me (I don't have skis btw).

I want to take a car seat so I know my to tear ikd is safe, rear facing and in a seat i trust.

So AIBU to be feeling a little hard done to? I've asked them if they advise I hide my buggy in a golf bag.

Katz yes that's an option too - I will measure it. I will have to not disclose it is a car seat as they don't allow me to check it in - bizarrely.

Lalala - not compatible with airline unfortunately - live and learn.

Atresia - not really, it actually folds and weighs 13 kg (or so it says on the box) so about the same as golf clubs and takes up a lot less room. But still I can't check it in.

Eurochick - this is my fear on car hire seats. I've always taken one too.

Munchy - was it the diono one? It's a padded bag.

Bun loaf - yep I just don't trust hire car ones. I had an every stage but had to return it as it was faulty - was a good seat and so easy to fit too.

Umizoomi- yes she will be forced in it and I'm not taking her out! They will
Have to weight the buggy with her in it!

Utterly ridiculous to suggest this is somehow descrimination. You've obviously never experienced actual descrimination.

meganorks · 28/06/2017 23:22

You are over thinking it. They allow a car seat and buggy as standard. They will label the car seat when you check in and then tell you where to take it. Then the buggy goes to the gate with you.
And no, it is not discrimination.

ArtemisiaGentilleschi · 28/06/2017 23:25

Discrimination-nope
Sense of entitlement- absolutely.

You fly low cost, these are the added ball aches you put up with.

Though never had an issue with Lyingair or Sleezyjet tbf.

Smiler1972 · 28/06/2017 23:33

I stand corrected on discrimination - apologies for any offence.

Entitlement? Well I do feel entitled to be treated the same as a golfer or skier yes.

You are obviously a golfer Artesimia ;)

Meganorks probably. They do seem to be the only airline that specify a weight limit though and I was just perplexed why they wouldnt allow me to pay and check it in like golf clubs etc.

BunloafAndCrumpets the Britax two way elite does have an alternative belt routing for cars described in the instructions with shorter seat belts if the standard routing can't be used. I have one and have used it in a few different cars (rearfacing) and it's fit and been secured. Smallest car it's been in so far is Peugeot 208 3 door and still left an ok amount of leg room in front.

Sorry for derailing the thread OP but thought it might be useful to know. Good luck with finding a solution.

giantpurplepeopleeater · 28/06/2017 23:39

Golfinh clubs and skis aren't baby car seats. They are different. Why shouldnt they be treated differently by the airline?

Also, these are policies that are set out somewhere that presumably you would have been able to check in advance, or called to find out. As someone else pointed out, different airlines have different policies.

Therefore, if you knew this was something you were going to need you should have done your homework first and factored it into the decision when booking flights. And well, if you didn't read the terms and conditions, that's on you.

Sorry, but I can't see you've been treated unfairly in any way.

I flew Jet 2 last year and checked in two car seats - they were both absolutely fine. Not a mark on them. I'm planning to do the same when I fly with them this weekend. I don't recall them weighing them but I did have to hoof it down to oversized luggage with them.

SpornStar · 29/06/2017 14:07

I had this issue when travelling with jet 2 and they do sometimes weigh the puschair and car seat.

I booked an extra hold bag and put the (ERF) car seat in it. As there was space and weight to spare, it allowed me to carry extra holiday stuff in the bag with the car seat.

araiwa · 29/06/2017 14:18

are you travelling alone?

if you have 2 items, give one to a different ticket holder
