Middle class problems I know but we had a cleaner in today for he first time to do a deep clean and then come back every week for 2 hours once that was done.
I've come back today and the to stand and coffee tables haven't been dusted or wiped, the shower screen and shower base haven't been cleaned. We have a 3 bed house with 1 bed downstairs which I don't think she even touched! AIBU to think this isn't very good? I've never had anyone do it before but surely main surfaces should be wiped down at least? She spent 4 hours here

She sent my husband a msg saying our house was a show home compared to some!

Whats that got to do with anything?! Thats not an acceptable clean just because some people live in filth!

Find another one!

Bluntness thanks I've sent it! She replied very apologetic and said she ran out of time...she has offered me half price for next week - I'm going to let her have one more chance! I'm making a list of what I expect done.
Thanks all! X

That message is very apologetic when you have no need to. I agree with Bluntness that you need to be more direct. I had a cleaner that was just OK, but I kept telling myself that she would be better under direction. Things would just not be 100% finished. One day DH had to work from home on the cleaning day (he was upstairs in his study in the middle of a conference call so he couldn't come downstairs when she arrived). He heard her clean for about 30 minutes downstairs, then sit out in our garden for 45 minutes and chat on the phone. When DH's call finished, he popped down to say hi (Cleaner was startled and embarassed and quickly got off the phone- and off our patio chairs!), and that he would go get a coffee to let her finish. Came back 45 minutes later and she was gone! We had paid for 2 hours of cleaning and she had only actually cleaned for 1:15. I have no problem with someone taking a break and chatting on the phone, but then, you still need to clean for a full 2 hours. DH said it was just a chitchat so not an emergency. I should have listened to my intuition and got a new cleaner as I could not understand why she was not able to do things to a proper standard. We got a new cleaner and she is fantastic.

The first clean is like an audition. It is always going to be the 'best' clean they can do. If it isn't quite right now, find a new cleaner.

I would end Bluntness' email with:

'I appreciate everything you have done, however, it is clear that we have different expectations. Therefore I do not think it will work out to have you do our weekly clean but I wish you all the best'.
