To think my cleaner may have stolen my drugs?

Mehfruittea · 28/06/2017 11:36

Prescription medicine from my doctor.

I have had a cleaner for about 6 months, but it is a small company run by a very lovely and attentive women. She's also very particular and will pop round sometimes to check on the work her girls are doing.

I dont know who she sends each week, it just gets done.

Recently, I've been unable to find 2 different medicines that I take irregularly. I've 'lost' a half full 300ml bottle of Oramorph - morphine that I use for acute pain. It's not every day, I try not to use it whenever possible. But I was in massive pain with a dislocated hip last week and couldn't find it. I only ever take it when I'm in bed, due to side effects, and it is literally nowhere.

Yesterday I was unable to find another medicine I take, when I get my periods. It's not a pain killer or anywhere near as serious a drug as morphine, just really fucking shit that I can't take the drugs when I need them.

I can't shake the feeling that the cleaner has taken these. I've now moved all drugs in to a metal case with a lock, hidden the key. Should I say anything to the owner of the cleaning company or not?

OP posts:

By the way I agree with the 'could you ask them as it's gone missing and I am going crazy trying to find it apporach ' as you are but accusing them outright

Our cleaner stole jewellery from us and to top it's off someone stole my grans stuff in hospital when she was dying

God knows how this sad topic turned into a bunfight 🙈

Pallisers · 28/06/2017 23:02

It is actually a good discipline to lock away meds - sorry you had to find out the hard way OP.

I've heard that people do it when viewing houses to buy too - have a quick look in the medicine cabinet when no one is looking and swipe whatever is there.

PersianCatLady · 28/06/2017 23:54

Oramorph is a controlled drug and has a high street value. It could also kill in the wrong hands
Oramorph is NOT a controlled drug and it DOES NOT have a high street value.

PersianCatLady · 28/06/2017 23:56

Oramorph oral solution 10mg/5ml is not a controlled drug. However, CD storage and CD records are a good practice recommendation.

Pallisers · 29/06/2017 00:12

It is like 2 separate threads here. One in which posters are responding to the OP's situation and the other which is a bizarre pissing match about oramorph and its place in the universe. This is why MN is so entertaining.

Marmalady75 · 29/06/2017 04:40

As other posters have suggested I would contact the agency. I'm glad you've decided to do that OP.

Where I live oramorph is dispensed with a big blue sticker saying it is a controlled drug and it has to be signed for. This is from a variety of local chemists including chains and independents. I didn't realise the rules were different in different parts of the country.

FruitCider · 29/06/2017 09:32

The rules aren't in different parts of the country. Stronger oramorph may be classed as controlled but it's use is very rare. For 10mg/5ml oramorph it is not controlled in most countries, and certainly not controlled in any part of the UK Marmalade

SapphireStrange · 29/06/2017 10:00

Oh, who fucking cares about the status of oramorph?!?!

Move on, people. No one's looking at you any more and no one is impressed.

OP, I hope the situation is salvaged; let us know what happens.

anonymice · 29/06/2017 10:08

It doesn't matter what is controlled or not. Tell the company as others have suggested. They need to know. I have had anticonvulsants stolen before by opportunist thieves. Maybe a cabinet locked on the wall next to a good light source from now on OP ?

DeadGood · 29/06/2017 10:10

FruitCider I'm sure all those other mean posters feeel really stupid and awful now that you've revealed your superior status as a detox nurse. I mean, they should have known!

And yes of course people will pay for oramorph, persian. It is stronger than something you can get in a pharmacy, and can't be obtained without prescription, so yes it has a value to some people.

Junkies don't want oramorph because they would struggle to get high even after drinking a whole bottle.

It is practically worthless.

FruitCider · 29/06/2017 10:23

they should have known!**

Being as it's the same posters who troll me on just about every single post I comment on, yes they should being as they have nothing better to do!

FruitCider · 29/06/2017 10:25

Oh god I'm laughing so hard at this comment, sorry. Have you heard of reduced opiate tolerance when using pregabalin? Oramorph is the exact kind of thing buds want. And it's not just "junkies" that are addicted to opiates, funnily.

Tazerface · 29/06/2017 10:31

Fruit - is it because you pick on one unimportant part of the OP and then pick it to death?

Hope you get an answer OP and the cleaner has moved it somewhere.

LurkingHusband · 29/06/2017 11:03

Junkies don't want oramorph because they would struggle to get high even after drinking a whole bottle.

Junkies by definition, are hardly paragons of good decision making.

And a junkie who knows oramorph is useless would still nick it, and sell it to a fellow junkie who didn't know.

PersianCatLady · 29/06/2017 11:06

The only people who would want oramorph are people who want it for pain relief.

When you are addicted to heroin, you would only drink a bottle of oramorph if it was free.

Why would you pay "a high value" for something that won't get you very high or £10 for something that works in seconds and is available everywhere.

StarryCorpulentCunt · 29/06/2017 11:30

Did I SAY you were trolling? No I didn't. I suggested that perhaps those of us without any medical training might appreciate things being explained without the bitchy "I know better than you stupid peasants" attitude and that perhaps you should accept that you are not in fact the centre of the universe and every single comment on this thread is not addressed to you. Although now you've mentioned it, weren't you a triage nurse last week? And in mental health before that? You must have a very versatile job role or a very understaffed hospital.

MsFortunaMajor · 29/06/2017 11:34

How is this helpful to the OP?

OP I am glad you have decided to contact the cleaning company. Let us know how they respond, if you feel able to. This thread has made me think about the way I store my medicines, I think some changes would be useful.

FruitCider · 29/06/2017 14:44

My job is versatile. It has to be because I don't work in a hospital. Yes we are extremely short staffed. No-one cares about prisoners, let alone ones addicted to heroin and spice! Being the only nurse on duty means I HAVE to look after their physical health needs despite being a mental health nurse. Hope you have a clearer idea on what my role entails now. Nursing is about holistic care, I don't let my registered branch limit the skills I am willing to learn. It makes me quite sad that my role is so misunderstood by the public to be honest.

FruitCider · 29/06/2017 14:45

I'm sure if I left a bottle out at work it would be gone within seconds!

(Disclaimer - I would NOT do this, obviously)

AngeloftheSouth84 · 29/06/2017 14:46

If she's sending 'girls' round to do your cleaning, is there not a responsible adult supervising them?

QueenofEsgaroth · 29/06/2017 15:38

Wow Angel! I believe that is this thread officially derailed...

sueelleker · 29/06/2017 16:13

Yes it is, I work in a hospital pharmacy, so I know.

Getoutofthatgarden · 29/06/2017 16:14

AngeloftheSouth84

Really?

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 29/06/2017 17:00

Well this thread ended up kind of weird Confused
