to think someone has stolen my jeans?

I've been going mad searching the house for my favourite jeans. Literally spent a whole day looking for them, and it's not a big house so there's not many places they could be. Checked all the obvious places and the less obvious ones too, like in the kids' drawers in case I accidentally put them in there. They are nowhere in the house.

I remember the last time I wore them and since that time only two people other than my children have been in the house. Firstly, my cleaner, who's worked for me for a while and has never taken anything, I trust her 100%. Secondly, my dd's friend who is 13 and has previously stolen from me (there was a thread about it a while back under a different name), which I forgave her for as I realised she's a bit of a messed up kid and I didn't want dd to lose her friend. So obviously she's my prime suspect but it would be odd if she had taken them as they wouldn't even fit her. I did ask her if she had taken them (which felt justified given that she'd stolen from me before) and she denied it, but she hasn't been over since then. So she either feels guilty or offended that I've accused her.

I'm really gutted, I'd never found a pair of jeans I liked so much, and I can't replace them as they are no longer for sale and can't find any on eBay either :( I keep hoping they will turn up but there is really nowhere I haven't already looked.

How did it get in there, Lotsa??

KC225 · 28/06/2017 12:12

Could someone in you house have disposed of your favourite jeans. Friend binned her DH's way too skimpy football shorts (that he insisted wearing as casual wear). He remains convinced that were stolen from the washing line as they were 'classics'

WildBelle · 28/06/2017 12:14

I'm a single parent so don't have a partner to blame, and the kids never go near the laundry.

It's heartening to hear these stories of items turning up in really random places though...I'm still hoping that's going to happen!

This happened to me in a hotel about DHs shirt. We were abroad. It was one of his favourites. I reached the 'right that's it I've had enough of this' ' 'I'm going to reception...'
I'm glad I didn't...It was hung behind the door in the walk in wardrobe Blush
My advice would be to have a really good look round before you jump to conclusions OP

Tanfastic · 28/06/2017 12:33

I thought I'd lost a top the other day but then found it on the wardrobe under a cardigan I'd obviously put on the same hanger but I would never have seen it if I'd just been flicking through my wardrobe.

Hope they turn up but it does sound suspicious 😒

Lotsawobblybits · 28/06/2017 13:34

Floggingmolly absolutely no idea! Grin

WildBelle · 28/06/2017 13:37

I FOUND THEM! Remembered that a couple of weeks ago I got some of dd's outgrown clothes out to sell on eBay and then put the rest back in the bag. They were in there.

Really glad that dd's friend didn't take them.

Ah that's good. Glad they turned up.

Caulkheadupnorf · 28/06/2017 13:51

My friend lost a pair of jeans for over a year. She found them when she was packing to move house. They were caught up with some bedding she never used i think.

Caulkheadupnorf · 28/06/2017 13:52

wildbelle will you now apologise to DDs friend for accusing her?

RiversrunWoodville · 28/06/2017 13:52

Glad they turned up op! I have a favourite pair too and will be gutted when they are knackered so would hate to lose them

GinIsIn · 28/06/2017 14:01

I remember your previous thread. I don't think you should still be having DD's friend in your house - you will never be able to trust her and every time anything goes missing you are going to assume it's her.

MyheartbelongstoG · 28/06/2017 14:03

In between towels in the hot press?

nornironrock · 28/06/2017 15:14

A few years ago, a pair of my DDs trousers went missing. My wife went crazy looking for them - it became an obsession. Still now, if something gets misplaced, we refer back to that incident. Anyway, drawers. Some chests of drawers have so much space underneath the bottom drawer that is possible for an item to be pushed off the back of an overfilled drawer, and to fall into the pace behind/under other drawers.... If all else has failed, you could try looking under any drawers where this might be the case. It's where my daughters trousers were found a couple of years later!

nornironrock · 28/06/2017 15:15

damn it. I didn't read the whole thread!!!!! Glad they turned up!

WildBelle · 28/06/2017 15:54

I will apologise to dd's friend but when I asked her about it I did it in light hearted way, rather than accuse her of taking them, it's not like I interrogated her. As soon as she said she didn't have them I let it drop. I'm sure given what happened before she can understand why I might have thought to ask her!

And to those saying I shouldn't let her come to the house regardless, she's been on her best behaviour since the eyeliner incident. She has a miserable home life and recently started self harming, she's pretty messed up and really enjoys being at our house, so I'm not going to take that away from her (unless she does steal something else from me but hopefully she's learnt her lesson there).
