to think that the words the BBC used about Charlie Gard were upsetting and wrong?

The reporter said "......whether ending Charlies life ....."

No one is ending his life! He is being allowed to die and that is a very different thing.

Surely this language shouldnt have been used to describe the withdrawal of life support?

He does. I just mean I can see why parents in that position would believe it when a doctor said there might be some hope.

Littlefrogletx · 29/06/2017 18:03

What will happen to the funds raised?

PyongyangKipperbang · 29/06/2017 19:12

My understanding of it is that the doctor in the US wasnt aware of how bad Chalie's condition is so when he said he could help it was to prevent it getting to the stage it had already reached. When he realised how bad things were he himself said that his treatment wouldnt be able to help.

Expat, you might not have said the words but your language, 'you haven't got a clue' , 'there's no way you would know how you would feel' certainly gave that impression. Your confused emoji is therefore is just being disingenuous. Or maybe you just don't realise how you come across.

Chestervase1 · 29/06/2017 20:00

Years ago I remember a little chap who needed a liver transplant when treatment was unavailable at the time. His mother fought so hard for him. Today liver transplants can and do take place. I also recall being told when I was in a maternity unit 34 years ago that newborns cannot feel pain. Although none of the newborns liked injections and could obviously feel them. Medical opinion was adamant. Perhaps more has gone on than we are privy to but I don't think Gt Ormond Street has come out of this very well.

What will happen to the funds raised?*

While valid, I think that question could possibly wait right now.

WankYouForTheMusic · 29/06/2017 20:18

Why has Great Ormond Street not come out of this well? What should they have done differently?

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 29/06/2017 20:28

GOH have done nothing wrong - honestly don't read the daily mail Angry

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 29/06/2017 20:30

Or Facebook..

PyongyangKipperbang · 29/06/2017 20:35

I cant help feeling that no matter what they did, GOSH would have been in the wrong somehow. They would have been blamed if he had died en route to the US for example, I am sure of it.

OP posts:
WankYouForTheMusic · 29/06/2017 21:04

That was my feeling, but I'm interested to hear what the poster concerned meant. Wasn't really clear from the post. I dunno, if the medical situation is as it is described, I don't see what else was to be done.

HiggeldyPiggeldy · 29/06/2017 21:15

its all such a horrible situation, the parents are in hell I can not imagine their pain, the hospital have been vilified which is awful, and poor Charlie is in the middle of this

LuchiMangsho · 29/06/2017 21:15

And how does the liver transplant example change anything. The treatment for Charlie does not exist. Even the American doctor said so.
If you read the original judgement there is a lot of contradiction in what the parents say. So they want to argue that Charlie is conscious, so they argue he responds to stimuli and to...pain...(like a heel prick test) but insist he is not IN pain. That's clearly not possible. My child was on a ventilator for 4 hours (prem baby) and I KNOW he was in pain- you could see that from his sats and from the way he fought it.
I think Charlie's parents are using the US trial as their explanation for why they went to court but a close reading of the judgement shows that the two sides are not that far apart. The real difference is that Charlie's parents do not trust the doctors. They argue that he is not as sick as they say he is. But again, contrarily, they accepted that his current quality of life was unsustainable and unfair. I don't blame them for these conflicting views but even a cursory reading of the judgement shows that, understandably, the parents are clutching at whatever straw is being offered.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 29/06/2017 21:57

Jesus that facebook page Confused
It's like 10 tonnes of stupid sewage

Awful and so unhelpful

I think his parents have been so badly advised Sad

Taylor22 · 29/06/2017 22:09

I'm on Charlie's army Facebook group. I was there from the start. Donated etc.

Now I'm disgusted by the grief chases.

They're naming Drs. Skating and attacking GOSH and saying the most disgusting things about people with more intelligence and knowledge then they could even dream of.

Of course what has happened is tragic and just plain shit.

However all that babies name will be known for is his vicious and disgusting fan base who were so clueless and pig headed.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 29/06/2017 22:17

Sorry Taylor I meant the nasty Ones not you obviously Flowers

Taylor22 · 29/06/2017 22:22

Oh No!
That wasn't in reply to you! I'm so sorry!
I didn't see your comment I hippoed from further up and was just so annoyed from some comments here and from what I've seen today elsewhere.

WankYouForTheMusic · 29/06/2017 22:23

The whole thing is just awful. And that group isnt helping. People talking about picketing the place should be ashamed of themselves.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 29/06/2017 22:24

I just peaked at the facebook and it made me so angry as GOSH saved someone I love a lot
No need to apologise !

I didn't mean it to look like I was against his supporters . just some of the comments were AngrySad

thereallochnessmonster · 29/06/2017 22:30

That's the worst thing about Facebook. People who have absolutely no idea about anything but are all 'aww, Hun' and 'it's your right to do xxxxx' when they are ignorant twats.

Ceto · 29/06/2017 23:02

The trouble with the allegations about being refused permission to take Charlie to a hospice or back home is that we are only hearing one side of the story because GOSH, rightly, realise it would be totally inappropriate to get into an argument or slanging match with the parents. It may well be, for instance, that no hospice will take him because of the level of care he needs, or because they don't want to find themselves being accused of murder as is happening to GOSH, or any number of reasons. Likewise the problem with taking him back home may lie in the problems of taking life support equipment with them, and the fact that someone would have to go into the home to turn off the machines but would be in difficulties if the family refused to let them in, etc etc. There may also be ethical issues around moving such an ill child and potentially subjecting him to further distress and pain.

The whole thing is just a horrible nightmare and I feel dreadfully sorry for the parents, but I feel even sorrier for Charlie himself.

Taylor22 · 29/06/2017 23:19

I've just read on another site that they can not remove him because it's in the court order that he must remain in the hospital.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 29/06/2017 23:25

GOSH have disabled their Facebook comment and review pages and not surprised so many vile comments on there!! Calls for protests outside the hospital and everything..there's support then there's a mob mentality...

bluebell34567 · 29/06/2017 23:35

I think they should allow the treatment in US.

LuchiMangsho · 29/06/2017 23:57

Or they cannot remove him to a hospice because the parents have not agreed to a DNR and no hospice will take them without one. We just don't know.
And what do you mean 'allow the treatment in the US?' Do you mean 'prolong the acute suffering of a baby for a treatment that even the doctor in question says won't work and which the parents accept won't cure Charlie?'
