To not attend this training course on Friday

I booked a training course at the beginning of the year and my employers agreed to pay for this as it was something that could benefit them too. I was really enthusiastic at the time as it was relevant to the job I was doing.

I have since handed in my notice, and have 3 weeks left. My new role (different employer) will be unrelated to this course which is on Friday. I am really thinking about not attending and having a long weekend. This is not something I would usually do and think that it would be a bit selfish not to attend, however I never put myself first and it is also on a day that I am not due to work. Would it be really unreasonable not to attend?

Yabu if its been paid for. They might ask you to refund them if you dont turn up

Rossigigi · 27/06/2017 18:12

if you don't go let them know someone else may be able to attend

TheChineseChicken · 27/06/2017 18:12

Can't you suggest that someone else goes instead? Surely that would be of motenbenefit to your current employer

TheChineseChicken · 27/06/2017 18:13

more benefit

rollonthesummer · 27/06/2017 18:14

If you don't attend the course on Friday, surely you should be going to work instead?!

I think your current employer will be unimpressed. Could it affect your reference, now or in the future?

MissionItsPossible · 27/06/2017 18:36

I would go, if it's a training course you never know if it might come in handy in another job in the future.

YABU

Fine to not go but you should let them know and should be in work instead

Asmoto · 27/06/2017 18:40

Can anyone else use the place instead? It seems a bit pointless to go at your employer's expense when you're about to leave. Have you asked your line manager what s/he thinks?

tissuesosoft · 27/06/2017 18:42

Why would OP need to go into work if she isn't due to work that day anyways?

I think passing the course into someone else would be the best option!

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 27/06/2017 18:43

You might be expected to pay if you don't turn up - many contracts include a clause like that now.

Rogersgal7 · 27/06/2017 19:00

Thanks for your responses I think I will just go and like you say Mission I might find it useful and I didn't think of that dailymail.

Even if it's of no direct use in your next job, it might look good on your CV as evidence of seeking professional development.
