To think I'd be seriously hacked off....

...if I'd spend hundreds on going to Glastonbury for the weekend, and then had to put up with that monumental prick Corbyn when I'd paid to listen to some awesome music???
And before the slaughtering begins, I'd have been equally pissed off if ANY politician had hijacked the stage for politics when I'd paid for music.

There are about 60 stages/performance areas at Glastonbury. Hundreds of performers/bands/speakers. I'm sure 4 mins out of 72 hours of music could be avoided Confused I think you're being a bit dramatic.

I find the idea of 'uninterrupted' music amusing. You do know that some of the greatest songs ever written are political - implictly or explicitly? (Not all politics is parliamentary).

you could've gone for a wee when he was on for ten minutes?

Glastonbury has loads of stages though, could you not just go to another area for the 10 minutes Corbyn was speaking? It's not like the entire festival shut down and his speech was blasted over loudspeaker for an hour!

LOL, glastonbury is fucking massive, with multiple fields and multiple acts going on all the time. You wouldnt have been frogmarched to go and watch Jeremy Corbyn

he didn't "hijack" it - he was invited!

I agree with you actually. I like them to concentrate on the music, not religion, or politics.

It's not just a music festival though...

There are also poetry tents, dance tents, performance, stand-up comedy, charity stalls, and yes, platforms for left wing politics.

Go to one of the other many festivals if it’s not your thing.

You couldn’t pay me to watch Ed Sheeran but you know what I’d do if he came on? I'd go to another stage…

But it's not just a music festival, @headofthehive55 - surely everyone knows that?

@headofthehive55 that's fair enough but then Glastonbury isn't for you. There are loads of speakers and panels at Glastonbury, Corbyn obviously got a lot of attention but it's really nothing new. As others have said though, plenty of other stages if you don't want to listen to it.

@bloodymaria I never said they did. But stating it's an environmental festival?! Environmentalists who can't pick up their own rubbish Hmm

Yabu, Glastonbury is huge. It's not just two stages. You can quite easily not go near any of the main stages the entire weekend and still hear a load of music.

Left leaning festival leaves others to clear up the mess. As always in life!

Personally, I wouldn't have been hacked off and it seems that thousands at Glastonbury weren't either.

Clutching at straws a bit for your oh so funny joke there Headofthehive55. Look at any large public event and there will be mess that needs cleaning, see Royal Ascot for a recent example. Also, Glastonbury is on the Eavis' land. It's their festival, they clean it up. Darn left wingers cleaning up after themselves Hmm

YABU OP.

Bit strong to call someone whose policies you don't like 'a monumental prick'. Hmm

Oh well, seems lots of people were happy to listen to Corbyn at Glastonbury... I bet you're just jealous that Theresa May and/or Nigel Farage haven't been invited to speak at a festival yet Grin

I voted labour but didn't see him (was at busted since you asked). He was on for 10 mins, pretty easy to avoid. The festival is fairly political and general left leaning, there are generally politicians / activists speaking.

jellyfrizz · 27/06/2017 23:05

He was at Left Field, the area for left wing politics so probably not the place you'd go if you weren't interested in politics.

Even assuming you didn't like any of the other gazillion things that were going on at that moment in time surely you'd just do what I do at dh's Xmas do when his boss decides it is time for his speech - "back in a minute - just going to the loo".

Dh's boss speaks for a lot longer than Corbyn did (last year's speech was timed at 19 - very long - minutes and 49 seconds) so I also get a drink and chat to the others who have also managed to "speech avoid".

Report
muddlefuck · 27/06/2017 23:15

is there just one stage at Glastonbury then?
