Bought a Pret chicken salad around 12.00 today to take to work tomorrow. 12 hours later at midnight I realise DH didn't put it in the fridge so it's been sat at room temp all day. Should I eat it or bin it? I'm 8 weeks' pregnant.

So annoyed!

Nope don't risk it. Room temp for that time is perfect breeding conditions for bacteria.

Bringmewineandcake · 26/06/2017 00:05

I'd bin it, and I'm pretty hardy about these things. Unless it's been really really cold in your house today?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/06/2017 00:05

Nope.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 26/06/2017 00:08

I've not long since eaten some left over take away chicken that was left out just in the plastic tub it came in from the take away saturday night. Wasn't aware things like that could be dangerous, its cooked and was sealed.

avamiah · 26/06/2017 00:09

I think you have to bin it to be honest and what a waste.
It's not worth it for a couple of pounds but tell DH he owes you a lunch .😉

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 26/06/2017 00:10

I really wouldn't mess about with chicken. Bin it.

Crispbutty · 26/06/2017 00:10

I'm a chef. It's dangerous.

mrsroboto · 26/06/2017 00:18

thanks! gonna ditch it. Was really looking forward to it as there's nowhere to get lunch where I work so it's another cheese roll for me...

If you weren't pregnant I'd eat it ... but you are. If you MCd even not because of this you would likely blame it ... you don't want that. It's £4 ... take the hit x

BeepBeepMOVE · 26/06/2017 01:20

i'd eat it, maybe not if knocked up though.

Aquamarine1029 · 26/06/2017 04:18

Because it's chicken, don't risk it. I'm worried that you could very sick.

Youvegotafriendinme · 26/06/2017 04:25

I'd eat it if I wasn't pregnant but as you are (congrats by the way) then it needs to go in the bin I'm afraid

There's no guideline that says you shouldn't eat cream?! Your poor friend, I hope you're not encouraging her to blame herself about her miscarriage.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 26/06/2017 05:35

I'm a caterer and I would.

But I wouldn't advise anyone else to.

peachgreen · 26/06/2017 07:15

@Iwasjustabouttosaythat How absolutely vile to blame your friend's miscarriage on something she ate. Utter bollocks. You can't trigger a miscarriage by eating cream.

Brittbugs80 · 26/06/2017 07:17

Miscarriage by eating cream? Are you sure?

I'd echo what others said, not pregnant eat it, pregnant, I wouldn't take the risk.

YoureNotASausage · 26/06/2017 07:19

Iwas, mayo is also fine unless made with raw unparturised eggs which it rarely is. And runny eggs are also now fine due to lion stamp. Educate yourself rather than scaremongering anxious pregnant women.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/06/2017 07:20

I know of a woman who lost her baby because she went for high tea at a fancy hotel and had some cream. This was only two years ago

No,you knew of a woman who went for afternoon tea and sadly had a miscarriage, the two weren't connected.

caffeinestream · 26/06/2017 07:29

@Iwasjustabouttosaythat no, you know a woman who went for afternoon tea and sadly lost her baby. The two incidents aren't connected!

caffeinestream · 26/06/2017 07:30

Pretty much word for word x-post with @DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen oops!

YoureNotASausage · 26/06/2017 07:42

To OP, I wouldn't eat it if early pregnancy. Salmonella can be a problem in early pregnancy. And chicken is a bit harder to be sure about than most foods.

kaytee87 · 26/06/2017 07:48

Bollocks.

crazypenguinlady · 26/06/2017 07:49

I'm normally pretty lax about food guidelines (use by dates etc) but u was very restrictive about such things when I was pregnant. It's not worth the risk OP with the baby .

PetalMettle · 26/06/2017 07:51

Chicken is dodgy - there's something specific wrong with it that's in loads. I wouldn't eat chicken out at all when I was pregnant
