AIBU?

We all love a parking thread

First world problems I know, but irritating to death all the same...

Row of six town houses, next door is the only one with a garden rather than having it converted to a driveway. There used to be a grassy patch on the pavement in front of their house.

However, they then spent the whole winter parking on it and driving on it so much that it had been turned into a muddy patch that stretches in front of my driveway and their other next doors. Said mud gets driven onto my new driveway and trampled into my house. The pavement that was already knackered has quickly eroded under the mud to be quite messy and dangerous.

The grassy patch is now too damaged for them to park on...you've guessed where they park now...right at the end of my driveway. This completely blocks access.

The car doesn't belong to someone who seems to live here all the time, so sometimes they are just picking neighbour up. But it is always at the exact time that I am trying to leave in the morning for work. AIBU to expect that I can just leave my house when I am ready, rather than wait until she had loaded her feral (oh that's a whole other thread) children into the car?

Or sometimes when I come home they are parked there. They pay no attention to horns and just glare at me if I knock and ask them to move. So I have to park across the street and move my car later.

Currently, they parked there at 5pm and when I went out "to the bins" they said they would just be a minute. I'm expecting guests at 8pm, who I don't mind blocking my driveway and they will have no where else to park. They are still there...

Surely it's not unreasonable to want to chose who I allow to block my driveway?!

Rant over. I feel better now.

Move your car out first thing so that they get out of the habit of parking there.

Time to let the kids' large, wheeled toys roll down your own drive and into her parked car. A lot. Stuff like dolls' prams, trikes etc. Or a wheelbarrow full of bricks.
When she challenges you, give her the reaction she gave to you re the dog incident.

Harriet, love it!!

I've tried the horn and the backing out - even when they are getting in the car, it doesn't speed them up, or even get a reaction.

It's just they've destroyed the grassy area outside their house too much for anyone to park on it without getting stuck or messing up the car.

I meant why can't they park on the road outside their own house, not on grass.
On your diagram it looks like they park on the road at end of your drive.

The road is too narrow for people to park on, because of the drives opposite and the flow of traffic. It would actually be dangerous. They are parking on the pavement.

Ah yes, maybe ignore the top stars. They aren't parking on the road.

So they are essentially blocking most, if not all, of the pavement too? If so I'd take photos, and send that to the council. They have a duty of care, because surely it's not safe for a person using a wheelchair to squeeze past. And the lack of a drop curb on their side would make it difficult for a wheelchair user to go around the car in the road. They sound like complete morons.

Is your next door neighbour a recently unemployed nanny? Grin

They sound like a nightmare. Take photos of car blocking and send to council. Take videos of you trying to get out of your drive and them not letting u and call 101 armed with a number of videos to show it's not a one off. If all else fails start parking your car across your own drive so that they can't.

I wouldn't want to make the mud situation worse by parking in it myself, when I have a brand new drive I can't use. And that would lose me a space too, we park two cars here.

Yes they do block the pavement, as they park closer to their house than if my guests were parking there. My guests park nearer to the other next door, which leave space for wheelchairs/pushchairs.

They are a nightmare (she says, lying in bed waiting for their kids to stop banging, running and screaming, and the dog to stop barking).

I sent photos to the council when they parked on the grass, to show the damage they wee causing and hey weren't interested, said there was nothing they could do. They very kindly offered me the opportunity to pay to have it Tarmacced at a cost of several hundred pounds...

My dad had a similar problem. One night he was blocked in yet again. He called 101. They got in touch with the local police force who called the owner and told them to move it or it would be towed.

Definitely report it! But they have to be blocking you in, rather than blocking your access. So call them when they're actually doing it.

Wtaf is wrong with people! I'd def call 101-they could get a fine for causing an obstruction. And take pics to show them too if you haven't already.

8am...they drove off just as I was walking out of the door. Didn't stop me getting out at all but they had been there for the previous ten minutes, so I was still pissed off. Added to my photo collection!

You missed an opportunity yesterday to have both you and your friend park within a millimetre of their front and rear bumpers.

Hahahaha!

Although they blocked me in before this point. I can't get out when they park there.

That's totally worth bearing in mind though...we have come back together before and been blocked out...

Knock every time. Every single time.
Preferably at daft times of the day

They don't answer the door. I've been face to face with her through the glass (even one time when she had collected a parcel for me) and she still doesn't respond.

Probably can't hear over the dog barking...(oh this family could create soooo many threads.)

5pm. Parked on drive. Next door park across the end, blocking me in. My friend arrives, can't get onto drive. Friend pulls up behind and sits on horn forever until they come out complaining...

Next time they block you in drive right up to the car so they can't open the doors to get the feral children in. Repeat in every possible occasion.

Can your friend drive on to their drive and lean on their horn? Perhaps right up to their front door so they can't get out?

They don't have a drive. They just like to destroy the pavement instead.

Ring 101 and ask for an appointment with a local office to come to your house. Try to arrange it for a time they usually block you in. Explain the issue. Make a diary and take a photo each time and how the officer. Ask if they will go and have a word.

I wonder what they'd do if your friend was to just drive up onto their garden and use it as though it were a drive?

Also, with all that mud coming on your drive, you need to do lots of power washing. Just make sure her kids are in the way when you do it. Grin
