I have tried:
Odour remover
Anti bac spray
Scrubbing with washing up liquid
Hiring a rug doctor massive machine

Nothing works! It still stinks of piss!
Any tips? It's been like this for about 2 months so can't use baking soda as it's too late!

Was it a lot e.g. not just a potty training toddler wee? Did you treat immediately at the time? Sounds as if it has soaked into the backing/underlay, in which case ripping it up is your only option.

Or is it animal- cat/dog? Either way I think you might need to replace your carpet if it's stinking after 2 months...

LivingInMidnight · 25/06/2017 15:29

Enzyme spray? I use total control one.

Pets at home do a spray that's fab

Still stinking after 2 months?! Blimey! I would be looking into replacing the carpet after that long. No pissy smell should still be there after that long, even if you hadn't put anything on it to remove the smell!

Got no advice really. Shake and Vac usually gets rid of odours in my carpets. But if you have tried all of the above (in your OP) and the stink is still there, I doubt if S & V will shift it!

Mamabear14 · 25/06/2017 15:32

I think after that long it would need to be ripped up. I use simple solution for any dog wee, or toddler pee for that matter, it's the best thing I've found.

is it the underlay and floorboards?

Use an actual urine off spray. Is this pet or human? But if it still smells that badly after 2 months I think you might need to take the carpet up and see whats going on - could have soaked into floor beneath?

MarvinKMooney · 25/06/2017 15:35

Try spraying it with white vinegar (put it in a spray bottle undiluted), then sprinkle liberally with sodium bicarbonate. Leave for a few hours then hoover up. I used this on a mattress and it came up a treat.

DJBaggySmalls · 25/06/2017 15:36

Its probably soaked into the underlay.

RandomlyGenerated · 25/06/2017 15:45

10% solution of biological washing powder in warm water?

But as DJ says, it may be soaked into underlay and chipboard / floorboards underneath too.

Onthehighseas · 25/06/2017 15:49

This will sort it out.

Brittbugs80 · 25/06/2017 15:50

We've just cleaned ours with rug doctor machine and two days later it stank of wee too, I was gagging on the smell.

We aired it whenever we could but it did get better by sprinkling a whole tub of bicarbonate of soda, leaving it overnight then hoovering it up.

We also did shake and vac too but that smelt worse!

JustArandomUser · 25/06/2017 15:51

I remember when ds1 (6) decided that walking to the bathroom in the night was too much work and just pissed on the floor instead.

2 nights in a row.

After trying every trick in the book, it still smelt weeks later so I ripped the carpet up, mopped the concrete subfloor with bleach, and then put down laminate.

Got rid of the smell.

Ames33 · 25/06/2017 16:56

It's toddler wee and I can't rip the carpet up, it's under a year old!! Sad
Thanks for the tips, I'll try the vinegar and bicarb!!
I think we underestimated the stink when it first happened and didn't clean it well enough!

Google Urinator Eliminator and look on Rob Harvey Environmental, and there is a 500ml bottle to spray on the area that needs treating, called Urinator, which works on human or animal urine. As other PPs have said if it has soaked through onto under lay or chipboard you might have a problem. The theory is that every time you wet an area it grows bacteria and this causes the smell. The Urinator neutralises the bacteria and allows you to clean the carpet. It is the same product that nursing homes or hospitals would use. You can phone them and they will be helpful in advising you on their products.

I have a Vax carpet washer and use Vax ultra to deep clean carpets. It always surprises me that despite using a Dyson, which cleans well when I deep clean the carpets just how much extra dirt is picked up. I have used Rug Doctor but find the Vax better.

OnTheRise · 25/06/2017 17:19

Get the spray for cat pee from a pet shop. It works well so long as you really saturate the whole area.

If a carpet gets really soaked and isn't dried quickly the smell can be awful. I think it gets mouldy as well as wet, and that gets really bad. If this has happened you're probably going to struggle to get rid of the smell but what I'd do (and I have dealt with some horrendous carpets in rented accommodation over the years) is I'd use the pet shop stuff, really soak it--probably just pour it on, never mind spraying. Leave it for an hour or three, then blot it up with lots of towels or a carpet cleaner; then dry it as quickly as I could, so turn the heating up, perhaps put a dehumidifier into the room. Leave it a week or two to make sure it's properly dry. If it still smells after that, go through the whole thing again.
