Am I an awful mother?

My 4 week old baby has bowel problems, so I had her laying across my lap so I could massage her tummy. All of a sudden, she stretched her legs out straight and the force of the stretching sent her flying off my lap onto the floor! She wasn't hurt at all, but I feel awful and I cant stop crying and I feel like I'm not looking after her properly.

Has this happened to anyone else?

DS at 6 months old, stuck him in the corner of the sofa, turned around to get a big, 3 seconds later head first onto a wooden floor, he cried, I cried, it was bloody awful

Over the past 3.5 years he's had so many accidents now (including a door falling on top of him & splitting his head open) I just shrug it off and get on with it,

DD1 never had a single incident like this. Not one. I was a practically perfect parent back then.

DD2, I dropped out of the baby chair thingy when she was approx 4 weeks old. I was trying to pick her up and move her without disturbing her. She was pretty disturbed to find herself head first on a tile floor from about 3 feet off the ground! I called DH wailing and made him come home from work, raced to the drs who discharged us after a hug and some reassuring noises with a signoff paper with the words 'maternal education' written on them! Grin

A few weeks later her big sister rolled her off a divan trying to get a pillow under her 'to make her more comfortable.'

A few weeks after that I banged her head off the door frame of the car getting her into her car seat.

This poor child has been bashed, squished and rolled to bits. She's nearly four now. She seems fine...

My eldest fell of my bed when she was 4 months old
My 7th child fell off my bed at a similar age and I didn't batt an eyelid
We all feel bad bad really it was an accident. You didn't mean your child any harm and I'm sure they're fine.
Chill out 😊

Really?!

TathitiPete · 25/06/2017 00:46

No, not really!
Hmm

Flowerfae · 25/06/2017 00:49

aww I'm sure she'll be fine :) I was carrying my DD (who is now 11) when she was a couple of weeks old in a Moses basket, I let go of one of the straps by mistake and she fell out onto the floor.. face down too. Luckily the floor was carpeted, even though it wasn't thick carpet. I don't know of anyone who hasn't had something happen with babies/small children. Don't worry :)

OH dropped a phone on 9 week DD's head this morning. She's already forgotten about it I'm sure where as he still feels dreadful!

I fell down the stairs while carrying ds when he was 5 weeks old. He was fine, he cried in shock and then smiled at me about 2 seconds later.
Even so I called 111 in tears and couldn't stop shaking.
It wasn't until later on I realised I had injured my elbow quite badly when I fell as I was cradling DS's head to break his fall.

My baby fell off the cot top changer while I had a quick wee - could still see him & he wasn't rolling at that point so I thought he'd be fine. I felt so guilty as I knew all the warnings about cot top changers - felt so stupid. He's 10 now, he's fine.
