Posted here for more traffic. I'd like to buy 4 yr old DD her first bike. Need reliability and obviously safety. Thanks.

An Islabike was the only bike my now 6 year old could ride for the past year. He was too small and has hypermobility. He just couldn't ride a heavier bike and the Cnoc 14 was just low enough for him, the smallest Frog bike was too big. After using a balance bike for a few months he was off on the Islabike and it's done a huge amount for his very low confidence.

My 8 year old has a Frog bike and whilst it is very very good you can tell the difference between it and the Islabikes.

My son has a frog 20" and its amazing, really light at 8kg, and tbh, no different to an Isla Benin. There are so many good bikes that are lightweight, and are much cheaper than an Islabike. I paid £300 for ds Frog, I just could not justify £400. Even on E bay a Benin can reach up to £250 excluding postage, I would rather get a brand new bike for that price tbh. Wiggins bikes look really good too.

The Wiggins Chartres bike (like Isla Benin) is only 8kg, and the Wiggins bikes are designed with a child in mind so smaller components apparently. It has good reviews too.

If you want to be able to go anywhere as a family by bike, without whining, exhausted kids, you need a better quality, lightweight bike for them. Not necessarily an Isla, but not a £60 beast which weighs more than an adult bike.

FFS, the OP wanted a first bike for a 4 year old, not something to go on 50-mile treks on.

There is a good Facebook page selling 2ndhand islabikes. I have bought and sold on it and you do get most of the money back on the bike.
