So ive got a mole that is of the dodgy variaty. The doctors were good and have referred me straight away for it to be removed, got an appointment for next week.

Ive made the mistake of googling and now im shitting myself! Ive looked at pictures of melonoma and it looks just like it.

AIBU to be scared or should i just chill and wait to see what hospital say? Ive got 2 young dc and im only 28 it cant be anything bad.

Just try and keep busy until you know the results. Firm believer in no point trying to over think things until you need to. Hope it all works out ok. 💐

Worst case that it is a melanoma the survival rate exceeds 98%. That said there are hundreds of things it could be most of which are innocuous. Agree distract yourself and wait to see.

I'm sure it will be fine. Well done for getting it checked out. You will feel so much better when it's gone. Do something nice (coffee and cake is my go to for treating myself!) to distract yourself.

Don't worry they will just cut it out. You'll be fine

Scared247 · 24/06/2017 09:37

Thank you.

I have been positive and trying not to make a big deal about it in my head just having a major wobble this morning. Just keep thinking what if!

Im annoyed at myself because i went to the doctors with it about a year ago and was told to go back in 3 months and i didnt, now i feel like if its bad it will be my own fault for putting it off.

You've done the right thing. Do you have support? I know several people who have had skin cancer and they've been absolutely fine, if that helps. Flowers

Yes i have my family and DH but they just keep saying dont worry and dont think the worst. I kind of dont know what i want them to say but i feel like they think im been daft.

I seriously need to step away from google, its scaring the hell out me but i cant stop myself i feel like i need all the information i can get.

When I was younger I had a huge mole on my right wrist exactly where the face of a wrist watch would sit. It was textbook 'dodgy' in that the edges were all jagged, it was a variety of browns and blacks in colour and it was rough to the touch with bumps and lumps in it. It was awful.

I hid it from absolutely everyone by wearing large wristwatches and it only got noticed by a Plastic Surgeon when I was having a minor procedure he noticed it during the operation. As soon as he saw me back on the ward he spoke to me about it and said it had to be removed and biopsies. I was petrified.

Everything turned out to be absolutely fine though.

I've since had another two dodgy looking moles removed and the biopsy results of them were fine too.

I can understand why you're scared OP but please don't think the worst. Just take the news as it comes Flowers

Thank you. Really helps to hear positive stories.

Your right even 'textbook' cancerous looking moles can be fine. The only reason i got it checked is because it looks exactly like melanoma pictures on internet. Reassuring to know just because they look like it doesnt mean it will be.

The risk of a single atypical mole becoming cancerous is about 1%. Yours probably isn't melanoma. It is, of course, still a good idea to get any suspicious moles looked at by a doctor.

Nanny0gg · 24/06/2017 15:01

I had one. Turned out to be a basal cell carcinoma and all is fine.

They're acting promptly ( I ignored mine for years) so don't worry just now.

Scared247 · 25/06/2017 14:20

Thank you for the reassuring messages.

I cant wait for it to be over i feel like its a black cloud hanging over me Sad. I feel so dramatic saying that!
