Stinking feet, even after washing.

How do you help someone that you live with that has feet that absolutely stink even after they wash them.

They cannot smell them, they think you're being an arse. But the kids and you can smell them even though you know that person goes straight into the shower after work and scrubs them.

I know prevention is better than cause, but in this case washing, preventing, drying, spraying, using ALL the usual methods don't work.
They work outside in the hot sun all day on their feet building.

So what would someone wash their feet with so the person who lives with them doesn't have to endure the stink.

Please help us.

Just ordered some Hibiscrub from Amazon which arrives tomorrow and the pedi tech looks just like the sort of stuff he needs. And I will try and make him wash his shoes and spray them once a week as well.

yes to pure cotton socks (or high cotton content)
changed regularly and washed separately with a desinfectant liquid.
shoes - at least 2 pairs to be worn alternating so one pair an dry properly and be treated with shoe de-stink spray.

if you can get him to, let him wash his feet with a deodorizing foot wash.

Thinkingofausername1 · 23/06/2017 20:02

Sounds like fungal thing. Tea tree foot spray, dry in between toes, then doctors!!!

newbroom · 23/06/2017 20:05

My DH has this - in his case caused by excess sweating (hyperhydrosis) which affects his feet, the smell really is awful ( and as you say, even lingers after washing). The smell I think is caused by a fungal infection which thrives in the hot damp conditions (yuk!), GP prescribed a roll on antiperspirant plus anti-fungal cream - it does work but has to be applied religiously every day. It's OK if he keeps using the medicines, if he doesn't we soon notice and it also leads to other infections like athletes foot, so definitely worth a trip to the GP x

Another vote for hibiscrub...

Fayrazzled · 23/06/2017 20:10

Are the soles of his feet pitted? My brother (in the police, on his feet for hours wearing thick socks and heavy boots) suffered from terribly smelly feet. He had an infection called pitted keratolysis- topical antiseptic/antibiotics helped as well as an oral antibiotic.

Fayrazzled · 23/06/2017 20:10

I should have said- pitted keratolysis is a bacterial infection- hence the antibiotics.

Peweee · 23/06/2017 20:13

No he doesn't but I have weird dots on my feet AND hard skin and mine never smell (unless I wear trainers with no socks. YUCK).
I used antifungal stuff for months and months and months and it never even touched it so I figured maybe my dots weren't fungal?!

I have them on my hands too and they definitely don't smell.

Pitted thingy.

Is that what this is?

Stinking feet, even after washing.
OP posts:
Peweee · 23/06/2017 20:15

Oh I've just googled the pitted thing, THATS what he had between his toes!!

So that's what's causing the smell! Brilliant we can fix this then!

He' said agreed about the pitted keratolysis!!
He'll see his GP. THANK YOU mumsnet!!!

My husband has thar pitted thing. It's vile.
What's the best treatments?

Fluffyears · 23/06/2017 20:24

Peditech is great and if you have worn shoes (like trainers) without socks for getting rid of ant smell.

Peweee · 23/06/2017 20:28

wibbly I've had a look and generally it's antibiotics. So Fucidin basically.

There's the suggested of oral antibiotics but presumably that's if it's severe, you'll think local antibiotics make more sense.

CauliflowerSqueeze · 23/06/2017 20:30

I would not be able to cope with that at all. Awful. You poor thing.

Wibblywobblyfoo · 23/06/2017 20:36

It smells so bad. Dh doesn't smell it either. He has a bath and scrubs his feet and they smell within seconds.

Peweee · 23/06/2017 20:43

I don't understand how they don't smell it?!

I had some trainers a few years ago which I loved it wore them without socks. The smell was absolutelt atrocious.
So how come these men can smell their own feet. They are closer to them than anyone else!

BenjaminLinus · 23/06/2017 21:08

Well that's your DH sorted and pitted keratolysis put at the top of the google search! The spots on your hands and feet, do they come after little blisters, then form a small spot and flake off a couple of weeks later? It could be dyshidrosis-eczema.

Peweee · 23/06/2017 21:14

No mine don't. They are teeny tiny bits of hard skin that I have had for years and years. It's worse on my feet. It doesn't itchy or get sore or do anything apart from just exist.

Really odd.

OohMavis · 23/06/2017 21:16

DO NOT GOOGLE PITTED KERATOLYSIS.

DO NOT GOOGLE PITTED KERATOLYSIS.
